Really? The bunch of socipathic carebears, who have never been in a non-NPC corp other than their own are representative of the player base ?

Pretty much. I am from the UK as well and the 'cyber-bullying' craze has really been picking up pace, with all that stuff about facebook and what not. That is why when I compare what is classed as 'cyber-bullying' to what we consider as 'griefing', then the grey line is really that much more grey. I wouldn't be surprised if the UK will ban all MMO's with the way they wish to 'protect' their children from anything 'wrong.'

Certainly some people have that view of griefing in general. But I think in this particular case the line is not so grey. The person was held up as a target in an out of game context and with the reason for the targeting being claims he made about his state of well-being outside the game. So both the platform used to target him and the reasons given were not game-based, although the methods proposed for targeting him were. But it is pretty clear that the possible upside of griefing him was meant to be that it would, hopefully, make him miserable in real life. Now, whilst that last goal might be a normal griefing goal, I think the RL context and platform amke this look like the game is actually incidental rather than central, such that considering it merely to be griefing someone in game misses out a lot of the details.

Mittani has single-handedly given Eve Online pariah status. I wonder how much this has cost CCP in terms of wasted PR dollars. The last thing Sony wants is to see major media linking Dust with online suicides and cyber-bullying. This would be the kiss of death to CCP.

The EVE community makes enough of a mockery of itself, it's as horrible - if not more so - than that of any other mainstream MMO.

A community overall is one thing, but when the Chairperson puts on a show like that; which quite frankly would not have looked out of place transpiring in a medieval castle feast room with mittens dancing in a jester outfit for the crowd as the boar slowly roasts on the spit; then serious questions have to be asked about responsibilities. Any Sony Official watching that would have been mortified and aghast at what the innocent on the PS3 network might soon be exposed to.

It's actually worse that that. We in the UK, more specifically the government, seems obsessed with this bizarre notion that life should be fair.

It's not... it's harsh, unfair, unyielding and monumentally brief and to be honest THAT is the lesson that we should be teaching our children not that if we cry loud enough someone will come along and make it all better, pay for that TV, make the bad man go away, or feed my family because I can't.

This is exactly what keeps me in EvE, I am essential a 'carebear' however I accept that **** happens, that people only open fire when they can totally wipe the floor with you. It's more 'real' than life some times....

I encourage everyone here to go look at some of the images coming out of India or Africa and tell me that life is fair.... In fact anyone thinking that life is not worth the living should move to these countries and 'donate' their life (that they find so useless) to people who quite frankly could do with a hug or two.. know what I mean!

The Mittani acted like a ****, he's apologised, now lets all just grown the hell up and move on.

Stupid drunken comments, lots of political mileage in that, oh, then he apologises,

Next step invoke the EULA, well get him that way, wrong not actually playing EVE at the time,

OK rethink strategy,

Eureka, Use the Cyber bullying card and smugly throw that one in, no defence there the man’s clearly guilty of bullying another player of a fictitious internet spaceships game. Cities vaguely UK/US current news on subject for justification.

Reaching new lows here are we not, if the man resigns now or if CCP force him out then vested interests will have managed to use stupidity, bigotry and the unintelligible voice of the howling masses to achieve what they were to weak to do in the first place.

Hey, if we're talking about stupid **** that won't ever happen, you know what else would be the kiss of death for CCP? A herd of elephants let loose in their office! Not just for the casualties, but for the structural damage!

Init

CCP continue to sit on there hands while trying to release a single console only development with interaction with THE biggest player in the industry.

Interesting to see Sony's reaction to this.....

Should they find CCP have misrepresented themselves all contracts could be null and void

I just want to remind that Ginger M. was immediately perma-banned from the game for his blindfold sentence in rage at Miz C. "I'll find and kill you in RL". And I am sure that this EVE addict tried hard to apologize afterwards to get back into EVE but he had no chance to do it because the decision was made. And this happend just in a system full with pirates who would not have cared. Noone except Miz would have cared if not a GM was there to remove roles. Today a CSM member can talk **** in front of the community with the excuse that he was drunken and did not remember? Sorry, CCP. It's time to do your frakking EULA job.

Not buying it. When people act terribly 'in game' there is at the very least a shred of truth. Mittani is a classic bully in all senses. I for one want nothing to do with him.

He wasn't acting in an official capacity though. He was there as the leader of Goonswarm, a well established alliance of well-known douchebags.

Also, 10K votes. He'd likely be chair without the Goon vote.

Again, the issues not being understood. Mittens can't lay aside the "player elected representative" hat when he gets drunk at Fanfest. Whether he was acting "offically" or not is irrelevant.

The point is, he mounted an out-of-game attack on a player. And he did so to camera, at a CCP-run event.

10k votes doing get you a pass for being stupid. And 10k votes don't undo the bad press.

Every time there's a CSM story for the next year, this story will remain in paragraph 4 where they have a Mittens quote. So every time the CSM has a chance to do some good for the game, there'll be links to a story that will put off prospective players. Mittens can't stay as CSM chair, I doubt he can stay on the CSM.
