Im new to eve, like less than a week, just loved everything so much i bought an account. Then last night i wanted some playing isk so i bought a plex (yay pay check) and sold it for 370mil, and i was doing price checks in the market and i see some guy buying slaves for 2.8 mil each
And i jumped on that so hard. So i get there and realize he is only taking 150 units at a time. And i noticed there was someone selling them at the same station for less than what he was buying, So i was like SCORE! and bought them right up
This is when i should have realized i was ******.

But hell, i wanted a few mil for nothing.
I bought the slaves i needed and pulled up the sale menu, it all looked fine.... then when i clicked sell i was out 4 mill (taxes). Checked my wallet getting ready to scream for joy when..... milliseconds before i hit buy the guy canceled the order...

So.... i just basically got scammed out of $20. I am just so furious right now, probably not going to resub.

was streaming because i wanted to see if i could survive being "attacked" by concord when i didn't want to give up my slaves. And my friend wanted to watch.

Stream: scam at 12:00 (sorry for my obnoxious music during most of the video, and i was on skype/talking in a chatroom i hang out in)
If only i didnt have ADHD i would have gotten my 200mil...

The sell menu right before the big score

Based on the number of times people make a thread about this, everyone doing it must be making a killing.

Just FYI, he didn't cancel the buy order manually, it's an abuse of the skill Margin Trading, where he puts the buy order up but only has to cover a certain amount of the total cost initially, then empties the characters wallet so when someone tries to fill the buy order, the character doesn't have the money and the order gets canceled.

Son, you just learn the most important lesson in this game and you're already quitting?

The lesson being is...If its too good to be true, it probably is.

This also goes for reality

Ah, I'm sorry to hear. I had this happen to me when I started. I'm still a bit annoyed by the fact that CCP does not even give a message about what happened. Your screen should just say '[person] did not have enough money to pay for your order, it has been cancelled' or something. That way you'd at least know what happened.

The odd part is, some scammers are not aware of the fact that they do not need to cancel manually :P or if they just put up the order, haven't moved money away yet, which is an interesting time to sell if you just happen to have their goods lying around.

Or try to fill the sell orders yourself ....

Usually means flying 10+ jumps in the hopes eve central has it's price still right and then 10+ jumps back before someone tries to bite on the scammer. But it can be verry lucrative IF you get the items and get them on the market on time.

Its a margin trading scam, there is no method by which you can get that order to fill. His alt will not have sufficient cash to fill the order, it will cancel automatically.

If you have the stock, you can niggle him by cancelling his orders a lot. if he's not that bright, and the order is on an alt, he may spend considerable amount of time spamming the scam with the hook missing.

I know how margin trading works mate i got it at max level Blink. You place the same items he is SELLING on the market.I don't want to fill his buy order , i want people who fall for his scam to buy overpriced from me.So far i succeeded in this only a few times though.

In other words the scammer looses isk because he has set up a buy and a sell order , the guy who is so dumb to fall for the trick will loose his isk because he buys overpriced items ..... and i am in the middle eating profits.

Your greed.
Your fault.

If you quit the game because of this,
remember that you're as stupid in real life,
but you can't quit that.

Well, if you won't be able to sub this month, he'll be able to sub for one more month instead.

I see no loss here.
