"Ragnar's Magic Hat", in reference to Ragnar Tornquist, former CEO of industrial mega-corporation Taggart Transdimensional, for some of the highly hilarious decisions he made during his career.

A very condensed list:

How do I shot web?

GB2WoW

L2PvP

L2Play

WoW, ------>

(In the rookie-help channel:) "Guys, something happened where I saw this big blue flash and my ship turned into what looks like an egg. Did I just level-up?"

The Caldari Prayer (various versions)

Tank the beating (not a meme, but always makes me lol for some weird reason)

(courtesy of Suddenly Ninjas, used when dishonouring a ransom against a mission-runner:) Suddenly...BETRAYAL!!

Screaming in Russian in chat and expecting the rest of the world who doesn't speak/read Russian to give a ****

American flag-waving in chat and expecting people in the rest of the world to give a ****

Women saying in their bios that they are, and how all edgy and angry an' **** they are, and that we should all fear teh vag for some reason or another...and expecting the rest of EVE to give a **** (pardon the expressionBlink)

Not a meme, but it should be, because it's mine, dammit: "Urp-splosion!"

Not a meme yet, but should be, for great justice: "It's hot drop o'CLOOOOOOCK!!"

Bait-Mallers, bait-Drakes, and bait-Prophecies (Cyno-supwize 4 U!Twisted)

I can haz ur stuffs?

(Plus assorted other uses of LOLCat-speak in common EVE-memes)

I could go on, but the character limit-tank would be most strenuously testedBlink

Star Wars: the Old Republic may not be EVE. But I'll take the sound of dual blaster-pistols over "NURVV CLAOKING NAOW!!!11oneone!!" any day of the week.

REAL men hull tank!

and: IBDS:
IBDS stands for "In Before Dark Shikari". Dark Shikari is THE original EVE forum celebrity. This guy would be the first to post in any interesting thread on the forums. He posted... a LOT. And he didn't just spam, either. His average post length was 1000 characters, which is actually quite sizable considering he averaged 21 posts a day. To put things in perspective regarding just how crazy his posting was, you have to realize that most of his posting was done from 2004-2006, and then he slowly tapered off in 2007. He stopped posting entirely in 2008.

Yet despite the fact that he hasn't made a SINGLE post since 2008, he remained the #1 poster on the forums (statistics are provided by Chribba's eve-search.com website which indexes every post on these forums). It was not until this summer that Akita T was FINALLY able to bridge the gap and dethrone him as the #1 poster. What Dark Shikari did in essentially 2, maybe 3 years took Akita T 5-6 years to accomplish.

Yet despite Akita T's best efforts, many of us bittervets will always remember Dark Shikari as the greatest poster these forums have ever seen.

This one isn't quite a meme, but is an important piece of EVE history.

One day, a newbie joined EVE as the charaacter INNONIMATE NIGHTMARE. He bought a shuttle and headed for the closest 0.0 system, never to return to Empire space ever again.

He chronicled his comical hijinks in his 0.0 experiment blog (buggy forums aren't letting me link it - do a google search for it). He also quickly became a forum celebrity due to his unique, humorous style of writing. For the 6 months that he played the game, he was EVE's champion - showing how much you can accomplish with naught but a shuttle, a rookie ship and a civilian mining laser. Despite his modest means of transportation, he had many achievements. He delivered the last unit of tritanium to complete an outpost. He was the first person to be doomsday'd by a Titan, he was the first person to convince the public to give him a billion ISK while explicitly promising nothing in return.

Just a few notes about the "EVE has SOUND!?!?" meme.

Oh so many years ago, enabling sound in EVE caused a serious performance hit, especially if you used multiple clients. This performance hit was not removed for many years. As such, more than 90% of the EVE playerbase played EVE without the sound on. Whenever someone would post on the forums and say something about EVE's music or soundeffects (even in passing), people would replay with:
"Eve has SOUND?"
"Wait... are you telling me that EVE has sound!?!?!?"
and other such variations.

The honor tank meme refers to a carebear who fit his dreadnaught with cargohold expanders instead of a tank. He claimed that he needed all of the extra cargospace to 'hold his honor'.

Dude... your face...:
Unlike so many other memes, this meme is all EVE baby. There used to be a bug with the avatar rendering engine, which caused a person's face to disappear completely. The only thing that you would see is the avatar's hair, clothes and a floating pair of eyeballs. One person who inadvertently discovered this bug posted a question on the forums about his raven. The first reply was "dude... your face...", followed by a series of excited replies commenting on his lack of a face.

Eventually, another player figured out how to trigger the bug, and created the character "Chaos Incarnate". He (technically, the avatar was female) quickly became a forum celebrity and had the power to derail ANY thread, simply by posting there. As soon as he posted, the thread would be followed with two pages of "dude... your face..." comments and bad face puns ("I find your lack of face displeasing" "It looks like he's just trying to save face".

When CCP fixed the rendering engine, Chaos Incarnate's face briefly appeared. However, due to some sort of bug, CCP had to rollback the change, and Chaos Incarnate's faceless visage returned to it's full glory for several months longer.

Eventually, though, Chaos Incarnate's face reappeared and was there to stay. Chaos Incarnate isn't anywhere near the forum celebrity that he used to be, but he still posts today.
