Dear CCP,

Your videos and graphics are awesome, your ships have been polished and improved a great deal and OMG more to come in the coming months!? Wicked.... but how am I suppose to get all psyched when the music in eve sounds like elevator, mellow electronic ambient sounds that even brian eno would find boring.... sorry, but UPGRADE the sound track in eve, it's badly needed, hire the guys who make trailer music like IMMEDIATE MUSIC or TWO STEPS FROM HELL or this guy Thomas Bergersen.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7j1Vn2TgLY&list=PL1179B0ECCC4F9613&index=42&feature=plpp_video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nobfhOxiPxs&feature=BFa&list=PL1179B0ECCC4F9613&lf=plpp_video

Just think about how much better eve would be with these soundtracks! Just imagine hunting sleepers to these two tracks..... how awesome???

Thanks for your time. Music matters, please UPGRADE !!!

Every day in every way I improve my skills and get better.

Whilst having ingame music would be nice only a small percentage of people would actually listen to it. Most people have the music off anyway. I know your response to that will be "because it's ****" but is it? Or is it that any music included with the game will get repetitive and boring after a while due to, well, being repeated a whole lot making any major expense by CCP to bring in exceptional music people to produce background music for EvE a waste of money?

The reason the music is "lift" music as you put it is because it's background music. If you want in your face "Ride of the Valkyries" music as you go into battle just do what everyone else does and mute the ingame music, open up your music client of choice and hit your selection.

People's music tastes vary so much that it would be impossible to include a decent selection of every music taste in the game, thus leaving the music generic seems like the best idea to me. You don't like it? Change it yourself.

Thats a load of crap, and let me tell you why. First music is the most powerful identifier and an integral part of the branding, it's not just about "Flight of the Valkyries", it's about style. Eve has a ton of style and has reinvented the look many times yet the music has not changed since 2003. The music currently in eve does not share the same impressive style as the look of the game.

It's not just about me wanting better tracks it's about balancing the game to make it more in line with the rest of the improvements and the music MUST be updated just like the graphics engine. It's all about branding. If CCP put the music from the game together with the trailers they showed at fanfest 2012 it would lose impact! People would tune out! Try it, put the latest trailer to the score of any in game track.... see if it has the same impact.

Why do you think INCEPTION used that ONE note during the trailers, because it stood out and was immediately recognizable by the audience. Now look at movie trailer SINCE inception, all share that ONE note, don't believe me? Look at the latest Prometheus trailer...

The rest of the Blah.

Any idea why hasn't the music changed since 2003? Because it's background lift music which is only cared about by a tiny minority of people.

There is no MUST about it. It'll be updated if and when CCP think there is a commercial reason to do so and not just because one or two people scream "I want" on the forums.

The reason why the music in the promos is good is because there is a commercial reason to make it so. The reason the music ingame isn't is for the same, albeit opposite, reason.

Now go on, tell me I'm full of crap again :)

Aww, that's sweet. You didn't understand.

Although, from your lack of response it looks like you do. That is, understand that the reason CCP hasn't updated the music is because no one except you and a few "special" others actually cares.

Of all the things CCP could spend their RL isk on to improve the game are you really suggesting that it should be the ingame music? Really?

I will agree here with Tchulen.

The first thing i did was turn off the music, and because it was as your called it "lift" music, but because it interferes with the game. this background music is not needed and can get in the way when using comms. especially if you are using external comms.

Sorry but the background music is such a minor part of the game play that it is not even worth the DEVs. worrying about it.
In fact they would be far better removing it than revamping it.

I think the music does need a major overhaul. With it interacting more depending on what the player is doing. That aside, it couldn't be that in your face stuff posted except in very specific situations to build excitement of a battle. Overall it would need to still be atmospheric subtle music, but one that gives a little push for things like jumps, targets and so on. It is minor now. But there is a reason that a whole generation can associate with any popular video game of the nineties. It's the music, a very important part of entertainment.

I think this could be rectified very slowly with a dev blog that highlights one or two new added tracks each week or fortnight.

Don't get my wrong, I'm not completely against revamping the music in EvE. I'd love it if the background music was more indicative of what I was doing, as I think you're suggesting, The Hamilton.

But this is only something that would be applicable to a small percentage of the eve population. No one (I think I'm pretty safe in saying this) plays the eve music in fleet. It just gets in the way of comms. Most people don't when solo. So this only affects a few solo players. Therefore putting anything more than spare time into doing it seems of less point than a lot of other development things.

It would likely be a bit like WIS. You hear about it being introduced, take a quick look and then never use the feature again.

I understand what you both mean about music iconicizing games from the 90s but there is a difference between that and this. Games from the 90s were played a lot, yes, but there tended to be one tune that repeated over and over and over thus meaning that 20 years later if you hear that tune you immediately think of that game. The music in EvE is background music and as such shouldn't make an overriding impression on the player. If you want iconic music that screams EVE then surely it would be better for it to be loading/logging in music rather than the ingame music.

Very eloquently put, cheers!

Yes some iconic music in the login would help, and some background, mining / missions love too. It annoys me a little at the positive reception the tessellation project gets compared to this, as music won't require me to upgrade my computer and buy an nvidia graphics card.

Screw music, no one is listening to it. BUT CCP PLEASE, UPGRADE THE SOUND EFECTS.

CCP really please dont use Upgraded, Limited, Experimental and Prototype in item names. It sounds like the item is actually worse than basic meta 1 item. Use Calibrated, Enhanced, Optimized and Upgraded. Its really easy to understand that the item is better than meta 1 and its also in alphabetic order.

What would really be cool is if they were to follow the pandora project method. Choose your channel of music you would like. Maybe even tap into pandora...

I like the current music in EVE, nothing needs to change.

If I get tired of it, mute, play my own.

according to everyone's interpretation, music should not be updated because it sucks and it takes away from the game.
well then we should update the music so that it is very good and adds to the core gameplay.

Just because the music Now sucks, doesnt mean the new music wont

We are all in agreement! The music now sucks, most of us TURN IT OFF. That should tell CCP loud and clear that the music should match the action.

Does eve need new tracks? In my opinion yes although here, we are not in agreement.

I really like the pandora idea however this does not solve a very simple problem, the branding of eve music.

If the music was good and more people turned it ON as oppose to OFF I am willing to bet CCP could even be selling EVE soundtracks for .99 a piece which would pay for their investment of hiring a professional musician, and possibly even make money in the end.

You can add your own mp3s to the ingame player. Play any music you want.

Again, yes you can do that now, that is not my point however. If you are going to have "eve specific" tracks in game they should match the rest of the world and help "immerse" you in the universe.

The latest trailer, where capsuleers step inside a sleeper complex is "perfect" to set the mood and feel of the visuals. It is a compliment to the story and helps you immerse yourself in that environment.

The problem with the current tracks is that we notice them too much, they are like crayon colors on top of a master oil painting, it does not fit.

Any new eve music will be turned off pretty quickly by most people, regardless of how good it is. There are only so many times you can listen to the same tracks before they get annoying. Doesn't matter how much CCP spend on music, the effect will be exactly the same.

Daft Punk, Klaypex, and Canadians. Perfect you want an epic electronic soundtrack. Have you ever heard the music in TRON Legacy? That's Daft Punk for you.

Thank GOD people like you are not running CCP, you are probably satisfied with the ships from 2003 in eve, I bet you're one of those people who cries to CCP to "keep the original scorpion" hull in game. You obviously have no interest in making the game better so please troll elsewhere.
