Damnit, and mocking suicidal players was going to be a vital part of my platform next year. Can I still mock the cripples and the Welsh or are those off limits too?

Cyberbullying, which egging people to harase a suicidal person is buy the way, is out of order. Lets dump the game to one side for a moment and look at what kind of person thinks thats ok. Seriously, im all for hulkagedden, Skunkworks crimespree or the gallante ice interdiction.

This isnt me some how trying to get an in game advantage or needing to HTFU. There are lines, smack talk is one thing, this isnt smack talk.

However when it gets to the point where someone stands up and encourages people to harras someone who is in that sort of state....well it is indefensable.

I am genuinly suppised to find people making light of this

One positive note is that the UK at least is now taking this sort of thing seriously with prison sentences now being handed out due to deaths casued buy cyber bullying. I dont know what the state of the law in the rest of the world is like, but at least somthing is being looked at it seriously in the UK. Im glad to say that CCP seems to be taking it seriously too.

As for me I teach for a living so i come accross this alot, weirdly its probably the number one form of bullying in schools thease days.

Oh fuck off with your white knight anti-cyber bullying bullshit.

First of all, this is not cyber-bullying. This is real life bullying. HTFU. There are far worse things said about people on Youtube thousands of times ever goddamn day.

Second, cyber-bullying is Eve is acceptable, and a major part of the game. Don't like it. Don't play it. People play Eve for the harsh, unforgiving environment.

Third, suicide should flat out never be used as a fucking bargaining chip (e.g. Go easy on me or I might kill myself abloobloobloo). If you do, you deserved to be publicly ridiculed for it.

Magnus Orin pretty much said everything I wanted to, but I'll elaborate on my perspective anyways.


Most cases of "cyber-bullying" were done in conjunction with real life bullying. The victim had no way to escape from their tormenters. In EVE, you can turn off the computer and the bullies are gone. These people make an active choice to continue paying for a game where it's explicitly stated that people will be jerks to you, and it's part of the rules. They can log off, they can quit playing, hell, they can just close the convo and do something else. Even if they've lost everything, they can rebuild - I've done it several times when I went full idiot. That's part of the game too. Drawing an equivocation between the cyber bullying that occurs alongside real life bullying in schools and the gameplay of EVE is extremely disrespectful to the victims of real life bullying, where there is no way for them to escape their tormenters.

There're limits to how much of a bleeding heart you can be. At some point, you have to be able to distinguish between a genuine victim and someone who is making themselves in to a victim and tell the later to just grow the hell up, otherwise your sympathy for the former is meaningless.

So we're supposed to stop suicide ganking because now people can fake being depressed and suicidal? The guy was mocked for using the "I want to kill myself " attack to make the people who ganked his 23 macks feel bad about doing it not because he actually is suicidal.

If all people who claim to be depressed/suicidal get what they want then I have this to say:

Actually i'd like to answer somthing very sensible sidus said. One of the major problems with cyber bullying within schools is that it follows kids home. Becasue of peer preasure etc they feel they cant just turn the pc off and have to take part in Facebook etc, even if they are being harased and bullied.
Its a real issue that is on the rise, certainly in the UK.
