I'm sure I'm reading into these skills too much, but I wanted to confirm it just to be sure (I hate assuming anything).

Each of the leadership skills has the following: "The fleet bonus only works if you are the assigned fleet booster".

Now does this literally mean you need to be set as fleet booster and not just squad booster (if you are the only booster in the fleet?)

For example: 5 miners, 1 Orca (and orca having best leadership skills) using gang link modules + mining foreman, mining director, armored warfare, etc. will only boost if the orca is assigned the fleet booster? Or if no fleet booster is set, and the orca pilot is set as squad booster will all skills / link modules boost the 5 miners?

I have seen that as a squad booster it does indicate in the fleet screen the orca is boosting, I just wanted to confirm that all gang links / skills are infact offering all the available boosts as a squad leader.

The descriptions are misleading if you take them too literally.

A booster only works in a fleet with a valid command structure, and both the commander(s) and booster(s) must be in the same system and in space.

Boosts don't stack, but you get the strongest one available.

Boosts flow down through command positions. If the command position is invalid, then boosts stop flowing down at that point.

For some strange reason wing commanders don't get boosts from the fleet commander, but everybody else can.

Forming The Fleet

I personally prefer putting the fleet window into hierarchical view instead of the default flat view.

1. You don't need a fleet commander (FC) unless you have a wing commander.

2. You don't need a wing commander (WC) unless you have more than 1 squad.

3. Every squad must have a squad commander (SC), and you must have at least one other squad member in a squad.

4. By default, the FC, WC, SC are boosters. This can be changed with a right-click "Revoke Booster", and right-click "Set Fleet/Wing/Squad Booster".

5. Look for the green checkmark in the top left corner of the fleet window (a red X is an invalid fleet). There must be an unbroken chain of command, and those in command must have the skills for that leadership position. The booster doesn't need command skills, unless they are in a command position. Putting the mouse over the green checkmark tells you which boosts you are receiving.

To move members, right-click on their name and select "Move member". Whomever forms the fleet is by default a SC, squad booster, and boss, and all these can be changed.

Example:
With 5 miners and an Orca, you can do that in a single squad, and the SC must have at least Leadership 3.

Method A:
SC + Squad Booster = Orca
Squad Member = Miner 1
Squad Member = Miner 2
Squad Member = Miner 3
Squad Member = Miner 4
Squad Member = Miner 5

Method B:
SC = Miner 1
Squad Member = Miner 2
Squad Member = Miner 3
Squad Member = Miner 4
Squad Member + Squad Booster = Orca
Squad Member = Miner 5

I tend to put my Orca pilot alt as a member, so I can warp the fleet around.

Great thanks for confirming Tau. What you described was pretty much what I was amusing. I mainly wanted to confirm the next 30+ days of training gang link skills were not going to be going to waste if I never confirmed they were functioning correctly.

Cheers!
