What skills should a tengu pilot have?

I am, unsurprisingly, a tengu pilot.

Beyond the essential skills to pilot the actual tengu what should I have?

Is it Heavy Missiles and Medium Shield Extenders to aim for? Or Large Extenders? Shield Boosters? Any particular skills to focus on?

Thanks!

If you're flying a tengu in Incursion you probably need leadership skills:
Leadership V
Wingcommand III can do but V + Fleetcommand I is better.
Cybernetics V for implant
Siege Warfare V
Skirmish Warfare V
Siege Warfare Specialist V
Skirmish Warfare Specialist V
Warfare Link specialist V
Information Warfare V
Armored Warfare V
(not need to train Information warfare specialist to V but if you ever fly armor fleets and boosting in a legion, gogo Armored Warfare Specialist V)
Ship:
Caldari Cruiser V
Caldari Defensive Systems V
the other tengu skills at some level, probably engineering skills.

That's it. You'll be a very nice offgrid booster. Every shield fleet will wants a tengu like that but you might as well train for a loki, they are nice offgrid boosters if you like the lower sig and webrange increase more then the better shield and repping.

Thank you re the leadership skills.

And for running solo missions, what should I train up?

Off grid boosters don't get paid out in incursions (unless the fleet is feeling kind).

For a straight mission Tengu you'll want the following skills as high as possible, preferably 4 or 5 unless otherwise noted:

Long Range Targeting
Signature Analysis
Targeting

Shield compensations to at least 3
Energy Management
Energy Systems Operation
Shield Management
Shield Operations
Shield Upgrades
Tactical Shield Manipulation (to 4)

Weapon Upgrades
Advanced Weapon Upgrades

Hull Upgrades

All missile support skills as high as you can stand
Heavy Missiles 5
Heavy Missile Specialization 4

Acceleration Control
Afterburner (to 4)
Evasive Maneuvering
Fuel Conservation

Connections
Diplomacy
Negotiation
Security Connections
Social

Plus offensive subsystem to 5; others can be left at 4.

Edit: I skipped Shield Compensation itself. That should go to 4.

As you might already have guessed, in my opinion and experience, tengu isn't really the ship for running incursions. Turret ships are heavily prefered prefered.

For running missions:
Heavy Missiles are your weapon of choice.
So you trained for heavy missile specialization to IV.
I might get flamed for this, but also trained fof missiles, they're really nice in those situations with a lot of frigates. I scan plexes in high-sec and this really works for me.
Ofcourse all the secondary missile skill, train them to IV before even starting to use your tengu and bring them to V eventually.

Shield skills: all of them.
Shield Compensation, Shield Management, Shield Operation, To V
Shield Upgrades, Tactical Shield Manipulation, to IV, all the different compensation skills to III or IV.

Capacitor
Energy Managment to V, Energy Emission Systems to V.

Navigation, don't underestimate the importance of good navigation skills
Afterburner IV, Evasive Maneuvering IV, Fuel Conservation IV Acceleration Control IV Navigation V

Cloak: Cloaking IV

Scanning: Astrometrics V (it's really worth it) Astrometric Pinpointing, Rangefinding to IV and Acquisition to III

Fitting skills: Advanced Weapon Upgrades IV

ERhhm,,probably forgot something.
Drones, wait you don't need drones.

I'm not a big fan of certificates but there's this one: Core Competency. If you get that to standard you have a solid basis for a new toon.

(edit) Darn previous poster beat me and included the targeting skills tyhat I forgot.

First, dont be offended by what im gonna say, im just trying to help here ,

you own a tengu but dont have the required skills to even fly correctly a T1 frigate

what you need first no matter what you fly :

all the general suport skills to 4, i can not be bother to give a long list, but basically read the description of all the skills and find out those who give you more shield, shield regen, more powergrid, more cpu, more armor, better agility, better warp time , less powergrid requirement for guns and missiles ( advanced weapon upgrade ) and so forth and so on.

those are called the support skills but they dont depend on the ship you fly , and you will always need them no matter what you fly, from frigate to titan.

When you re done with those support skills to 4, train the missiles support skills to 4 , they wil allow you to shoot missiles further away, faster, etc etc

you should now have all general and missiles suport skills to 4, since you already have electronics, engineering, and navigation to 5, train energy systeme operation and spaceship command to 5 .

then you can either train heavy missiles to 5 to unlock T2 missiles or train energy mangement and shield management to 5, those 2 skills are extremely important and will you serve well.

When you re done with those, you then cain train support missiles skills to 5 ( rapid laucnh, missiles bombardment and target navigation prediction to 5 )

This the right way to train skills, bring all necessary to 4, then suport to 5 and specialized after/

And for god sake, dont bother train warfare skills right now, you need 1 bazillion skills to be trained before those.

One word of advice, since you seems to a new player, watch out for suicide gankers, dont fit your new tengu with faction mod unless you havbe a good grasp at game mechanics, its better to spend a bit more time for those lvl 4 with T2 mods rather than being in your pod to run mission 2 minutes faster.

Damn. That was a major oversight. Jury Rigging 4 should probably be on that list as well (and yes, I know that CCCs aren't usually the best way to go).

On further reflection, I'd also add:

Propulsion Jamming 4 -- you might want to fit webs
Target Painting 4
Signature Focusing 4 -- even better, you might want to pack a painter
Frequency Modulation 4
Long Distance Jamming 4 -- you might want your painter to reach out to your targets

All above are good suggestions for tengu training.

Also don't forget electronic warfare to IV for your ECCM II, if you are flying against guristas you will want it..
