Hello,

recently i had a big ops of getting all my items scattered in the universe back to one single base again. Which left me with an overstock of ships. I now have 3 lvl 4/5 mission boats in one station and will only use one from now on. But browsing the web asking for mission boats and their best option i always get three options.

the Tengu, The CNR, The Nighthawk.

Funnily i am the proud owner of all of them and quiet frankly never done a lvl 5 that my nightmare should be able to handle.
I know the tengu hold a little less bang to bigger targets than a CNR, but that boat is less agile and hitting the frigs alot less well than the t3.

what is the best mission boat ?

If you're trying to be optimal, you should be using the ship that best fits the mission you're running. One ship will not always be best for every mission, just look at recon 2, best run in shuttle/speed boat.

LOL, of course there is no right answer to the eternal 'best mission ship' question?

What is good and not good is gonna depend on what you can fly, what your support skills are, and how you like to do stuff in eve. For me none of those would be my 'best mission ship' although the tengu would top my list of most-versatile-PvE-ship-capable-of-running-all-missions.

So, if I was forced to keep only one of those three it'd be the tengu.

However I have hundreds, possibly thousands, of ships in my main and outlying hangars and rarely discard / sell any unless I get desperate for isk beyond my current means. I realise many may never be used again but occasionally they provide great options for new roles ... such as the typhoon I turned into a combat-salvager when I was first having difficulty completing c4 sites.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

Depending on the mission and your tacktics/fit/skills the best mission ship from caldary for level 4 missions is Tengu, Nighthawk, Golem, CNR or Rokh. Caldary related best mission ships can be as well Rattlesnake, Gila or Nightmare.

Drake gets the job done but, unfortunately, cant be considered the best as its outperformed by the above mentioned ships so I'm not aware of any level 4 mission where Drake would be the best ship to fly over Tengu or Nighthawk.

Here, sanity... niiiice sanity, come to daddy... okay, that's a good sanity... THWONK! GOT the bastard.

Tengu is fast, small sig, tanks like you cant believe, craps out missiles fast so even smaller dmg to BS is ok. Dont need drones for frigs.
CNR - slow, big (sig), bigger tank than tengu (buffer), does good dmg to BS and BC, rest is drone food.
Golem - mostly same as CNR, tanks ok, does good dmg to BS (and BC if you have 2 TPs on a target) but less range.

If you wanna run missions, take any ship that wont make you fall asleep while playing since its boring as hell with them.

Want to save time and have fun? Vargur or Mach (not caldari i know) would make the game into a slaughter, instapop frigs at 70km, 3 sec RoF, just bring a lot of ammo :)

I'm sure this has been mentioned, but it's Friday afternoon and I'm too lazy to read the entire thread.

I tried a shuttle and my Tengu. My Tengu wins.

However, when I was still flying my Golem, I used to carry a shuttle around in my cargo hold for Recon 1&2 and Cargo Delivery.

Yeah, recon 1 and 2 are best done by something that can fit an AB or MWD, so the shuttle loses. My Slicer did really well on those, but couldn't tank Recon 3.
