Black Holes

Today some guys in help channel were talking about black holes, and that got me thinking..
What if a black hole spawned in a random system at a random location?

A capsuleer warping through that system within proximity of the black holes gravity, would have his warp drive temporarily malfunctioning and drop out of warp.

There could be several different scenarios to add from here.

- Different kinds of scenarios could be added depending on what ship you are flying.
Example: A transport ship would not get caught in a fighting distortion.

- Once caught in this "pocket" a timer could start counting down, and when reaching 0 you would be able to warp out again.

- There could be other hostile ships caught in the same distortion, that you would have to fight (with phat lootz).

- You could be able to send out a distress signal to corp members or friends, that would get a bookmark to your location if they choose to come help.

Just some thoughts, feel free to add more about black holes. Smile
Sorry if this is already suggested somewhere else.

There is an existing in game phenomenon called "dead space" which fits your conditions.

The theory of black holes is too well established to abuse the term to describe your suggestion. As described by General Relativity, if you are close enough to a stellar mass black hole to experience effects like time dilation, you are close enough for the tidal forces to shred you to pieces. Spaghettification.

Do you even play this game?

stop applying real world physics to a space submarine game that allows faster than light travel and passage through 'wormholes'

Speaking of wormholes, some wormholes already have black holes in them.

It has the following effects:

Black Hole Class 1 Class 2 Class 3 Class 4 Class 5 Class 6
Inertia Multiplier 1.25 1.44 1.55 1.68 1.85 2.00
Max Range Multiplier 0.90 0.81 0.73 0.66 0.59 0.50
Falloff Modifier 0.90 0.81 0.73 0.66 0.59 0.50
Missile Velocity Multiplier 0.90 0.81 0.73 0.66 0.59 0.50
Maximum velocity multiplier 1.25 1.44 1.55 1.68 1.85 2.00
Control range multiplier 0.90 0.81 0.73 0.66 0.59 0.50

I agree, even in New Eden where systems are jump gate regulated, there still should be an occasional supernova and rouge black hole. The current black holes in wormhole space are too weak, they should at least pose a little danger.

Why would something so dense that it can trap objects moving up to the speed of light pose a danger to a craft that can move faster then the speed of light, and fly through a planet while doing so?

Also, I'll point out that if a solar system is close enough to a black hole that a ship in that system is in danger, then you're less then an hour away from the system being in that black hole.

Your ship moves at sub-warp speeds majority of the time, plus you have to remember the gravity of a black hole will likely mess up your warp field.

Also, black holes have different masses, some so tiny you wouldn't notice until it rips a hole in your ship.

So do solar systems. Read my post.

This isn't star wars, you have your canon mixed up. I can warp through a star. Gravity does not affect my warp field.

That's true, but those aren't very spectacular, are they, and won't really add much beyond aggravation at your ship suddenly being blown up for no apparent reason, so don't grasp at straws.

I know systems move of their own accord, but that just further suggests one could travel into a black holes path.

I know, and in Eve if your warp is disrupted you can't jump. You're still vulnerable before you jump.

I'm not suggesting micro singularities either, there could always be a close by stable naked singularity.

Such as the ones we find in wormholes? Big smile

even without the lorefags

it would be annoying, not fun... ok first time awsome if ur in a cheap ship 2nd time god damnit black hole =\

also frieghters have no weapons so these would now be useless due to risk of holeaggedden

Lol at tryhards attempting to science.
The idea might work in a less developed MMO, but EVE already has events that do all the things you want these black holes to do, as well as already having black holes, but in different roles. In short, did you even research at all before suggesting this?

Oh wait
