Returning player- in a quandry

I have returned to Eve after leaving in 2012 (played from 2005 non stop). My character got about 95m SP, and 9bn ISK when I left it (this isn't main, ofc).

Thing is, I didn't follow Eve's progress, I withdrew completely. So, coming back to it now, I don't have a clue what is going on, nad feel very rusty indeed.

As I don't need to make money, that pull is gone. I liked PvP, but wouldn't stand a snowball's chance in hell in a fight now, and I don't remember much about it anyway. I have *much* less time to play as I am Dad to a 2 year old, and my family comes first.

So, given the above, is the meta still gate camps, hours of 'patrolling' without ever finding a fight, or finding you're hugely outnumbered and running away (or getting wiped out)?

I am not really sure I am right for Eve any more, as it used to be a game that demanded huge amounts of time....

I just need to know what my options are really! Thanks for reading my slightly whiny post Big smile

That's not meta, that's player mentality.

Compared to high-sec, low-sec (where the above usually happen) is still much less populated, and certainly high-sec carebears have learned to stay out, but CCP's made some changes to the game that promote PVP and interaction:

1. T1 ships were rebalanced to be stronger, closer to T2 in performance. This has made a lot of T1 ships more popular, and has allowed newer characters to jump into fights and survive vs. T2 - T3 flying veterans. This has changed the meta for small fleets to flying smaller ships (cruiser, sometimes battlecruiser), and relying on tactics and ship gimmicks (ewar, logis, etc.) to win. Means that rich veterans can fly gimmicky T2 or T3, and newbies can participate in T1 ships with T2 gear.

2. Sov. mechanics were changed a number of times, which has affected the capital ship warfare. The current version is based on invuln. timers and fighting between a defense fleet and the attack fleet, rather than having to take out deployables with millions of raw HP to win.

3. CCP's introduced skill point remapping via skill injectors / extractors, and the Alpha free unlimited trial has added a lot of newer players to the game; they can fly cruisers with T2 defenses and T1 weapons, so they can certainly participate.

4. Wormhole space is like nullsec, but with restricted movement (the wormholes are temporary and new wormhole tunnels must be probed out), and without the local chat channel. The richness of the space makes it the perfect PVPing ground, as it's possible to use cloaks to PVP-stalk players, as well as to ninja-PVE and fill up the hold with a fortune in modules.

So, imo, there's PVP everywhere, and you can also re-polish your character if you want to get rid of some skills and re-apply the points to others. You know 80% of the game mechanics, you just need to re-learn the ships (the may have been repurposed) and research some of the current best fitting strategies / doctrines.

Thanks Memphis, for your detailed reply.

I think I need to do some T1 PvP to get myself back into it, and I used to enjoy my time in WH space, so I'll focus on that for now, and see where it takes me :)

If you have very limited time, weird play hours, like pvp and isk/sub is not an issue join an entity that does fleets and ops 24/7. Open fleet finder, join random op, done.

There are public fleets (10-100 random people) if blue donut blueballing and blob tidi fights are not your thing. Usually multiple times a day and announced in advance so you can plan your day.

If your play hours are limited, but somewhat constant (in evening or whatever) there are groups that do exactly that- log in for a fleet, do a roam and log off for a week.

Solo pvp in throwaway ships is also an option, 30 mil vexor can kill hundreds of mils worth of "elite" gatecampers, end even if you get nothing (or just kill the interceptor/ sabre/ svipul that got initial tackle) you are still isk positive.

The game is more dead than alive at this point. I've played some Overwatch recently and have discovered that its fun/hour rate is better tenfold.

I'm in the process of moving all my characters to nulsec.

I deeply regret not having done so years ago. [I did spend my first 3 years of EvE in w-space.]

If you are interested in a great corp, I can recommend: Yamagata Syndicate [-YS-], a member of Circle-Of-Two [CO2] alliance, based in Impass (capital: 68FT-6, though -YS- mainly live in 4-MPSJ and TWJ-AW). Though they are mostly EU timezone, and I'm not.

Example: Last evening, I logged-in, did some PI, then mined a bit. A home-defence T1 Rupture fleet was broadcast for an incoming Goon fleet, so I clone-jumped to the staging system and got into a T1 Scythe for shield repping (I like logis). The Goons put up a great fight, but ended-up having to withdraw, and they seemingly made the mistake(?) of heading deeper into our territory rather than out of it.

I consider myself to be an industrialist, not a PvPer. I'm having a great time Big smile

Thanks Tau, when I get some time, I'll check them out. Can I buy ships out there or do i have to drag stuff out myself?
