High level approach for research / invention as a side business?

Hi all,

I've manufactured some stuff in my early Eve days, but never realy spend time on it, been mostly busy with pvp & trading. So I'm a bit of a noob on this topic.

Now I'm looking for a new side business, just to keep things interesting and I wondered if research & invention could be a nice thing.

From all the websites I find a lot of how to do it... but not what a good approach could be and what I should expect in profit. I've already started to train one of my characters into this. Also I have access to a WH Raitaru with 0% tax on it.

My ideal goal would be that I spend some time in the set-up, and then aim to minimize my effort into this. Is this type of sport mainly learning the required skills, buy some T1 BPC's, invent them to T2 BPC's and sell those on the market?

And is it possible to make this a 1B+ profit activity a month?

the market for t2 bpcs is nonexistant those you invent mainly to produce stuff.Research on the other hand can make you make you that target 1b per month but you need to pick your bpos carefully spend 2-3months to make them good 10/20 then you can compete with the rest in an over saturated market.

To achieve 1b month from research you will need to cough up cash for a very a expensive bpos(no less than 1b for multiple bpos or 10-15b if you're looking for less competion) and forget about wh raitaru those will not provide the best bonuses.You need to look for hi-sec sotiyo as those will provide the maximum bonuses for your bpo research.Not to mention the security of those is generally covered by the owner while in wh you can never be sure about your assets.

The hull bonus of a raitaru is 15%
A (fairly common) t2 rig in any flavor of null gets you another 50.4%

Total time reduction: 57.84%

The hull bonus on a sotiyo is 30%
A (profoundly expensive, gl finding one given the value of the other rig options compared to the lab one) t2 rig in highsec gets you 24%.

Total time reduction: 53.2%

The cost reduction is also nothing to write home about, particularly given that if you can find this mystical unicorn that's almost as fast as a null raitaru, the resulting cost index will likely more than blow it out.

WH rait would not be a good choice for lack of asset safety, but in terms of efficacy, it's pretty much guaranteed to beat out a high sec sotiyo.
