Mo Reads it Wrong

So, I had a good fight yesterday out of a relatively badly misread scenario.

I was hopping through the belts of Umokka picking up litter in my trusty Merlin. I like to think of myself as a public servant, of sorts, and I had my "on duty" light on (suspect flag).

I was jumping from belt to belt, enjoying my Sunday afternoon when I suddenly landed in a belt where a Retriever is being orbited by a Dramiel and a Stiletto who appeared to be shield-repping it.

They and I just looked at each other for about 2 full seconds as both sides considered our available consequences.

I smiled and wondered at the silly "miner protection contract" that would produce such a resulting activity as I powered my merlin towards them. I imagined these silly gooses (geese, microgaggle, whatever) would probably make enough errors for me to win.

They locked me up and engaged with polite reciprocation.

I chose the Stiletto first, as I figured he would be softer and almost certainly single prop/long range. He avoided me for several seconds, but I finally got the neut and scram on him and started disassembling his shields.

Somewhere during this part of the fight, as the T2 drones from the Dramiel were beating on me, it occurred to me that perhaps this wasn't a miner protection contract. Perhaps, instead of shield reppers (as I had imagined), these gentlemen were using warp scramblers on the retriever to hold it.

Maybe they were holding it for someone or multiple someones who could be coming to participate in a retriever slaughter. And, oh crap, these guys are from Public Enemy. As far as I know, Public Enemy doesn't shield rep retrievers...

As I was thoroughly scrambled by this point in the fight, this thought only increased my desire to work quickly... without actually providing me a clear means to do so.

I finished killing the Stilletto and managed to get ahold of the Dramiel. I had neut and scram on him, just under half shields, and was just pulling into range as a feeling of optimism re-entered my mind. It would be tight, but if I could stay close to this guy (he was built for range) his only effective DPS would have been the drones and I had a good shot of winning the fight.

I smiled.

A cynabal landed next to me.

I suspect he smiled.

My merlin turned into a puff of confetti. I went home in a pod.

Cheers to the gentlemen from Public Enemy for an enjoyable loss, I'm back in the market for a merlin. I wish that Cynabal had showed up 30 seconds later... at least I would know if I could have killed the Dramiel.

Thought this was worth sharing,
Mo

Eve stories worth reading! Lol

You might want to consider starting a journal. I'd surely be interested in the lecture.

A journal of my exploits or a discussion of techniques? I've written tutorials and maneuver guides before. I've never put much effort into describing the events though...

(Just confirming, linking killmails is not allowed in the forums... as they would help if I want back and tried describing some of my more bizarre fights.)

I meant a journal of stories worth of sharing of course. The humor factor is always a plus and makes for an easy lecture for any tldr adept.

For killmails an interested reader can always check zkill.

Now you must infiltrate their alliance and destroy them from the inside.

Everything in EVE is a trap.

And if it isn't, it's your job to make it a trap...:)
