Quick question
If I have 5 planets, 4 for bulk p1, and a p2-p3 factory planet
Is it at all possible to make comparable money or more even by doing bulk p2? How would I do the math on that?
Like cycle times and the prices on what I have available nearby x5 for p0-p2.

Haven't fiddled with it in a long time so I forgot the cycle times.

The main reason for going to P2 is to save time or taxes if you're in highsec. You can let it accumulate in the launchpad for a week (null) or two (high). P2 requires positioning your colony to harvest both P0 resources in sufficient quantity to keep your advanced processors busy - this is not easy. It may be possible when you first establish the colony but deposits deplete and respawn somewhere else. An exercise in frustration if you're trying to min/max. But, if you want casual low maintenance PI, P2 is the way to go.

P0-P2 is really about effort minimization rather than Profit maximization. That being said with only 5 planets it might make more sense to either do P0-P2 or a Hybrid System (See below).

P0-P2 saves tax in HS but its very inefficient, It works reasonable well in WH or Null but you have to pick your planets and products carefully as resources have to be close to each other on he same planet.

Hybrid System
1 P0 extraction on each planet but then have some advanced factories to make P2-P3 on each planet, that way to save the power grid of having 2 Extractors and you use the extra CPU an extraction planet would have. Just ship the P1 from each planet to the others as part of you normal pickup. Its pretty time intensive but for only 5 planets its doable.

You can make P0-P2 in a WH and never have to move your extractors unless on a large Gas planet.

The other hybrid P0-P2 method to increase yield is to have only 1 extractor and a silo. Fill up on one of the P1's then change out the extractor to the other P1. Repeat until it become too much bother.

P2 can be more profitable than P3, but you have to run the numbers to find out - and it will change over time.

In fact there are only 2 maxed variants:

Skills 4/4

Max afford, max time needed, max ISK

R0-P1 on one planet, scale the extractorhead / Basic Industry by the time you can go back to eve. Much work, but up to 10 Basic facilities are possible, with a spaceport and 1 Extractor. You max out the numbers of Basic Industry Facilitys, so you max out the output of P1 -> you need much time to collect the items (or store them in the office). Must restart the extractor every x hrs

DON´t do more > 1 type of R0.

You have 4 kinds of P1 for your further production. Do it on all accounts for P3 or P4

P1-> whatever on another planet.
Pay import / Export once, build whatever you want to sell. Bring your ressources in often.

Cheapest production for P3/P4 (with equal tax on im/export)

Much works, much income, must be online often.

Or:

The standard, lower efford, lower ISK

Build the standards P2 Setup (2 Extractors -> Storage -> 4 Basic Facilities -> 2 Advanced Facilities -> Launchpad.

You get this setup on planets < 3.000km (i remember this value) and it produces a constant stream of P2 parts. Cheapest way to get P2. Lower Output in m³ -> needs to restart extractors every 2-4 days (depends on planet). Material stored in office must hauled 1x a month or so. When P1 is needed for P3 or P4, just add a basic facilitie, bypass the advanced andd spare an extractor head.

P3-P4 are don on factory planets.

Steady strem, needs attenion every 2-3 days, lower Output.

That's a good quick down and dirty guide on how to do it. Question though, on the P2 setup, how many extractor heads should you be shooting for? I find that with CC upgrades IV I can typically only get 3 heads on each extractor which I'm not sure is enough.

It depends on the planet.

I find with lvl4 skills with a 2 extractor/6 Basic/3 Advanced setup I can get 6-7 heads total , with Lvl5 skills its more like 10-12. 6-7 is not really enough for a 2/6/3 setup but more than enough for a 2/4/2 . Does depend largely on the planet/resources/location.

With some of my setups with Lvl5s I can get 2/7/3 which processes excess P1 for a factory planet.

In nullsec with level 5 skills I can fit 3 advanced, 6 basic processors and 9 or 10 extractor heads depending on link length. I can usually get the 18000 units of P0 needed to keep the processors busy with 4 or 5 extractor heads.

I make little effort to keep things optimized but still end up averaging more than 2000 units of P2 per planet per week.

I had some casual PI in lowsec after i stopped runnin hisec factoryplanet. I made 0-2 on single planets, while only extracting one material per cycle. This way i could have more extractors out. I used 2 silos as buffers, i think i swapped the heads every 2-3 days or something and hauled like every other week, sometimes i just used the poco as temporary storage so i could get more space to the launchpad.
