Why don't all races have equal levels of trainable skills for drones, missiles since they all have the same level of turret skills?

because all races have boats bonused for guns, but gallente has no boat bonused for missiles (except the stealth bomber), while caldari and minmatar has no boat bonused for drones (except carriers).

So wouldn't it make sense to allow drone/missile support skills be trained to the same level since all races can fit missiles/drones on ships with no bonus for them?

Each race gets two weapon systems.

Amarr gets lasers and drones.
Caldari gets hybrids and missiles.
Gallente gets hybrids and drones.
Minmatar gets projectiles and missiles.

These correspond to the bonused weapon systems on T1 hulls through cruiser.

what you're asking is to basically homogenise skills, which makes the game boring. Each weapon system is different.

Whilst all races can technically use drones, all races can also use Projectiles too, but you really don't want to use them on most non-projectile ships.

Drones receive a significant bonus on Gallente ships, and bonuses on some Minmatar ships, where some can use them as their primary weapon, that's why there's only one set of skills.

Missiles require launcher hardpoints, if a ship has only turret hardpoints (like most of the Gallente ships), it can't fit missile launchers at all.
Same goes for smaller Caldari ships and drones, they have no drone bays.

So this may be my ignorance of the other races, but Minmatar have launcher points, turret points and drone bays for all of their cruisers. I would go so far to say that their dps was balanced with that in mind. So when you take away drone support skills, you take away a significant % of dps that the ships were designed to use.

I don't know if Amarr or Gallente have enough launcher points on their ships to make a difference, but every Minmatar cruiser has enough drone bay for a flight of light drones if not more.

As for the homogenization of races, pre-omega clones everyone could train whatever they want, so that argument doesn't carry much weight. Ship bonuses are still present, there is your differentiation.

Choices should have consequences. CCP spent years removing the distinction between the races, now they seem to be reversing course - the Alphas are racially locked for weapons and ships. The devs are hinting that standing, which has been nerfed to the point of virtual uselessness may be making a comeback. Empire space would be a lot more interesting if the faction navies attacked people with negative standing and assisted those with positive standing!

How is giving all races the option to train the skills, in any way changing the fact, that each weapon system is different?

You talk about making the game boring, but in your next paragraph, tell people they shouldn't use weapons on ships with no bonus, how is that not in direct opposition to what you just argued?

CCP and the playerbase have argued for years, that cross-training is essential to the game. and doing it is how you "fix" any conceived in-balance with the weapon systems.

I'm not arguing for CCP to change the mechanic, I believe it's a lesser evil choice they had to make, just pointing out that your arguments make no sense at all Big smile

Except amarr gets drones at a huge expense to cap skills.
Lol at ships with 10-15mb of drone bandwith as a secondary damage type
Amarr have never been drone guys except for the khanid who like to tinker and invent weird stuff like the arbitrator. Khanid like missiles too on their t2 arbitrator iirc.
amarr drone bays are trash
Omen gets 40 but thats because it has so little pg you cant fit any lasers or armor on it at the same time.
