Why do skill injectors require you to leave your ship ?

It doesn't really matter that they do. I'm just curious as to why.

Probably not to mess with the skills/requirements thingie. I can understand why you need to be in a pod while extracting, but I am not sure why the injector would need that.

Actually I've never used an injector before, did not know they require you to leave the ship Shocked For a moment I read "extractors" in the title. I guess that's how folks fall for scams in the first place. Roll

You need to be docked and in your pod to use extractors - this makes sense because they don't need to worry about you trying to extract skills required for the ship you are flying. I don't recall needing to leave my ship to inject skills - though it's been several months since I used an injector and there is no mention of this restriction in the knowledgebase.

While all the answers above are correct (for both extractors and injectors), the main reason is programming. It is much easier to make the conditions for using those items as being in a pod than to try to make sure the game correctly recalculates things.

The injector need is set up in a machine in the station. It was cheaper to build a machine that can inject a skill into than one that can breach your hull. Would you really want to fly a ship that had a hole poked into it!
