Hello Gentlemen,

I think I need a break from EVE, and I may not come back. Is it because all I have is a bitter taste in my mouth? No; not yet anyway.

It’s been about 7 years since I first dipped my toe in the pool, at the time I just didn’t have the patience for it, but I knew I’d love it so let the 14 days expire and came back to it once my life had calmed down a little. After starting up again I’d got 2 accounts on 12 month sub before I’d even finished the trial; fast forward 6 years and it’s two accounts I’m now waiting for to expire.

Many a great things I’ve done in EVE, no, maybe not by your standards but that’s not important, I played this game for my fun. Everyone has their own game. EVE wouldn’t be EVE if that weren’t true. I have a few highlights. My first war dec, only 3 weeks into the game I was able hold my own, just. After 3 weeks I finally decided the best course of action was to join another corp. Getting utterly schooled when making a cyno jump in a Rorq, to find myself a full 5000m from docking. Turns out that’s a long way when you get webbed by a Vindi and shot by a Moros. My EVE CV slowly filled up with almost everything, mining [admit it; you did it once], manufacturing, PI, PvP, PvE, Wormholing, Incursions, Exploration, Ganking, Extortion, etc. One of the few thing’s that has never been anything more than a function of the game has been trading.

I’d like to focus on my more recent exploits. I’ve had a group of friends I’ve known through the game for years, the group in general has held together better than our resolve to play EVE oddly enough, moving around to the next big thing in the industry as a group. This group has joined one of the CFC corps, and they love it, I get asked almost every time I log into the TS to go join them. I flat out refuse to do so. They’ve told me the recruitment process. I’ll be asked for my API (something I’ve never used myself let alone will ever be handing out) and will have an interview (It’s not a job, it already feels like a job, this certainly won’t improve that). I play on my own terms; always have.

To try and stimulate the game myself I set up corp and War Dec’d anyone passing by. Once it got to about 20 corps I started scouting them out and discovered one had a POS, hidden away but without a single defensive structure. Using 3 battleships I slowly tore it down, at one point a short kafuffle which resulted in 6 dead ships on their side [cruiser to battleship]. Taking down a POS as one guy against a corp of 36 members I felt…nothing. Absolutely nothing. There was a time I had left the game like a chessire cat because I’d blown up a Tengu. An entire POS, including the corps best effort at resistance? Nothing.

It was definitely the turning point. I cancelled my renewals [which have been on 12 month ever since I started playing] and logged off. I’ve been keeping an eye on the game, more out of habit than anything else. Once or twice I’ve seen something I’ve decided to comment on in the forums. I don’t like things that are boring so I try and add a little humour where I can. Twice now I’ve had threads locked for supposedly trolling and even had a warning. My input is no longer required it seems.

I’m sure I’ll be back, it’s a great game and it’s my life that’s changed.

If brute force isn't working, you're just not using enough.

Imo Its because those people ment nothing to you. Rather than war decing randoms, wait for people to pee you off or get one over on you and then your war dec will have meaning.

If you have to go for randoms then pick groups that are probably out of your ability to take on. Then work hard to come up with ways to get a kill on them and it will feel rewarding again.

I think once you have had a break and realised there is nothing out there to move onto after eve, you will be back. Don't give your stuff away just incase.

Enjoy the break see you in 3-6 months :)

I agree don't get rid of your stuff. I've been playing this game on and off since 03 and I've always came crawling back because there isn't much else out there.
