Mining Laser Yield Optimal Range

I think that mining lasers like most weapons should have an optimal range and falloff that would diminish the yield of the asteroid being mine.

Depending on the range, skills and modules used would determine your yield percentage that might increase the yield the closer to the asteroid that you are or it might not. Thus requiring the barge to find its sweet spot in order to mine the highest yield.

Why?

Is setting your orbit or keep at range distance to match your strip miner optimal really something you consider engaging gameplay?

About the only interesting question this would raise is for a ninja miner: do I want to orbit at 500 with this [insert mining frigate] for X% more yield, or do I want to be able to cloak at a moment's notice?
