Citadel Max Targtting Range - Increase

Citadels are anchored at least 1,000km apart.

Carriers/Supers can be sat at a Citadel and control their fighters, in some cases, at well over 4,000km (which is great for a new distance-based combat system on our larger grids).

Citadels too have fighters and it seems odd that they cannot be used in the same way.

Increase the targeting range on Citadels (currently only 350km) to 5,000km. Could scale to the size of citadel.

No reason a Citadel shouldn't be able to fit the same sensor suite as a Carrier. Also no reason that a Networked Sensor Array not be a Hi-slot option for Citadels (or indeed a 'Standup' equivalent).

the whole point is that a citadel can't cover another citadel

No - the whole point was that the fixed weapons on a Citadel wouldn't overlap - and they all have their own range limitations.

This is for the semi-autonomous Fighters which can be used at such ranges - cf Carriers

...Which would make a citadel able to cover another citadel.

And a citadel able to camp a gate. Or a station.

Just like a carrier can.

Even a carrier sat at a Citadel.

There is a difference here. A carrier untethers to shoot you, a citadel is just plain invulnerable outside of it's windows.

I trust you've seen the carriers that die in Saranen? What do you think happens if they're replaced with citadels instead?

Indeed, accepted, but I am only thinking of when it's vulnerable.

A Citadel that engages a target should really become vulnerable immediately. Which I have suggested before

no it shouldn't its one way to limit station games

also the idea was to keep citadels from covering each other period not just their main weapons

Except the fighters that shoot you aren't invulnerable.
Also it means carriers can just stand off and still attack Citadels while the Citadel can't defend themselves directly, only by targeting the fighters. And if that's a valid way to attack the Citadel that isn't imbalanced, then it's equally balanced for invulnerable Citadels to have vulnerable fighters attacking you.

You can solve the whole problem of Citadels covering gates by increasing their anchor range to other Citadels/gates etc to 5000km also to match the new fighter range. Which then allows your Citadel to possibly cover the new structures yet to come, thus making a space city centered on a citadel, but not a whole bunch of citadels working together.
