How will the future POS changes affect the POS content we have?

As people know, POS are great for optimized industry, research, safe spots, compressing and reprocessing, but they are actually a lot more than just that. They provide part of the hidden content that makes EVE a fantastic sandbox.

I've heard about CCP plan on replacing the current POS system for a Industry Platform, Small Citadel or whatever, and I wonder how it will affect the content that orbits the way things work right now. I have 3 major worries on that account:

Highsec "Sov"

The fact a POS can only be anchored on a moon allow them to be used for other purposes, specially important in highsec, such as controlling the Industry Index on a system. Take over all the moons on a system, no one else manufactures there, the Index goes low, you produce cheap.

Now, if like the Citadels anyone can install a Industry Platform on a system, this will become impossible, or at least inviable.

Low cost and efficient Compression and Reprocessing

They also make for a cheap and easy to maintain reprocessing platform. If you buy ore or ice from the miners, and need a POS there to compress and move that out, this POS doesn't have to be equipped or online all the time. You go there with your freighter, online the Tower, anchor the compression array, compress everything, take the compression array back when you are done and offline the POS again.

With a small investment of 90m per system and a total cost of ~200k in fuel to get the job done, you can service many systems for a low cost.

Highsec Janitoring and Forgotten Treasures

There are a lot of abandoned POS in the game today. A. LOT. And a very important thing about the way POS are today is that you can tell the difference between the POS that are just an abandoned Control Tower, and the ones surrounded with abandoned structures potentially filled with loot.

Its great content and a lot of people make a living out of finding those structures and either ganking them or wardeccing the owner to get the goods. Its an easy thing that even the small guy can do, because you don't have to take down the Control Tower first, since its offline, the structures die rather easily and it doesn't fight back.

Now I've been told it will no longer be possible to tell what is installed in there just from the looks of it, which will ruin this content for good, even for people who do it on online POS.

If you no longer can tell if the POS is juicy or not theres no point in bashing it. A lot of people invest heavily on this content, maintaining multiple account just for POS bashing. If this content disappears, CCP will be losing a fair amount of subscriptions, and many players will be left without their content and without their income.

Its a TRAP!

Some people use POS to set up traps in lowsec. They set up a POS that is fairly close to a station, fill it with tons of Blasters, and light a Cynosural Field on it. From the far traveler it will look like the Cyno is on the station, and they will warp to it hoping to kill a Rookie Ship worth 3m. You can only imagine their faces as they see the station slowly shifting away from their warp vector as they hopelessly land on a death trap.

Its small content to teach Cyno killers a lesson, but its still content.

I sure hope CCP takes those points in consideration for whatever they are planning on changing. Those are only some of the few things I learned about POS and the opportunities they offer in the last year or so that I've been interacting with them, I'm sure just like all other things in EVE there is a lot more content that I don't know about and sure will be ruined along with those if CCP transforms POS in a floating inanimate brick or something stupid of that sorts.

I have been wondering the same thing, right now Citadel's are expensive and out of reach for those who are wanting a small place to call home to start of with moon mining and other industry tasks as you pointed out, it's a shame to take content from them and force them to risk billions in something they might not really need when all they want is a one or two man base.

Hopefully they can introduce some sort of affordable alternative for the little guy.

I think it will be at least one year until they will remove completely code of POS-es from the game. If everything with new structures will come out nicely.

Everthing what have been in poses wil probably be in some kind of redeeming system and the architecture will be removed and refunded.
