Citadel Update Impacts

Good day,

I've heard that the control towers will eventually be gone. But I'm just wondering if this has fully been thought through or not, as to the impact on the game.

1. I've noticed a LOT of people use POS as a mechanism to compress ore in more remote systems, such as 5 jumps or more from a market. If the POS is gone, this makes doing such things entirely impossible, without spending 2B isk per citadel, or whatever it's going to end up being. I myself have done this for quite some time. So, getting ore to market will be much more difficult if the POS is gone.
2. Small corps will be unable to engage in manufacturing in any significant way. With the station taxes around 10%, it's just not feasible to be doing manufacturing anymore, unless you're in a big corp that can afford a citadel. And even then, it's likely they'll charge taxes.
3. Blueprints will now be extremely vulnerable. I wouldn't even want to be doing manufacturing (I'm guessing a lot of other people won't either), knowing that anyone could target my citadel any time they like, and I'm unable to pull my valuables out of it, let alone the structure itself.

Maybe due to all these impacts, everything from ore, to modules, ammo, etc, will simply triple in price, resulting in it all balancing out. I suspect, once the POS is removed, we will see a very large price increase in pretty much everything. I know I won't bother to be mining, if I can't compress my ore. And I know that with everyone else not being able to do that, they won't be as likely to mine or buy ore in those remote systems. Then, everyone will be mining near to a market hub, resulting in there never being ore in the area.

Is there something that I'm missing, that was perhaps discussed previously?

This is indeed heavely dicussed in the Testserverforum. Citadels and Controltowers will exist at the same time for quite a while, until the towers will get erased from the game. The amount of time has not been told yet. I use a small tower for compressing too. After 2-3 hours i am done with it. I will miss that. Cry

Yeah, I will really miss that. So much so that I pretty much will not EVER be mining, unless it's in WH space for a bit. I'm guessing the same will go for many people. Although, if they made it so that the orca could compress ore, like it's larger variant, then that would mitigate some of the problems with POS disappearance. But, it won't mitigate the problems with small corps manufacturing. It just won't be worth it for them to do so.

So were the points I brought up discussed in this test server forum? And what were the thoughts on these issues?

Please look for yourself. Afaik it will take at least until oktober 2016 to release all the features for the citadels(production and invention f.e.). I see a lot of changes coming until then. For me, i see the removel of the small towers for small corps more as a plan to go, and not as a "Fixpoint in Time"(Doctor Who Reference)Smile

The price should settle at about 1 Billion per Astrohaus at the point, when CCP will remove POS compressing array from the game. Since unlike POS your citadel is much harder to destroy and the assets in it is really safe (will be transferred to the nearest NPC station after citadel goes Kaboom) this price is not overshoot that much.

Manufacturing and citadels do not have much incommon. There will be specialised manufacturing structures, arrays, where you will manufacture. Not much info about how they will work yet, though.

Quite opposite - all your stuff will be placed into NPC station, after your citadel is destroyed. Do not forget - your citadel can be hidden in safe pot in the middle of nowhere. It will not be bound to the moon as POS do now. Place it in safe spot somewhere in Athinard and you have your home one jump from Dodixie, in the place, no real PvPier will look for it.

There is no good way to put this man, but you really need to either go read the discussion threads, reddit, etc.

Keeping up with the news is key in this game. Reading the Dev Blogs should really be in the tutorial. You would have known that POS's are not going anywhere for a good period of time, so your game play will not be affected for a while.

In response to your points:

1. A basic Citadel will not cost that much. With a reproc rig, you are looking at the same cost as a current large tower setup (maybe a bit more) but it is not out of the question. If you are worried about fuel, just do a massive reprocess once every two or so weeks. I will leave it to you to figure out the math on the fuel because you would need to read the dev blogs to get the exact figures for fuel consumption.

2. It is possible at this very moment to do indy out of an npc station. You just need to put in the time and have the patience to watch the market and know what to build. Nothing changes with this. The changes to the market taxes will not impact industry manufactures because the market will "adjust" and consider those fees.

3. Again, if you read the dev blogs, you would know this is an unfounded fear (in high/low sec and I think Null too). First off, citadels will be much more secure than POSs now due to their vulnerability timers. Secondly, asset security will keep your stuff safe unless you are in a wormhole. BPOs will be just as vulnerable after this patch as they are before. The only time this will change is if/when CCP completely removes copying from NPC stations, but I do not think they intend to do that (at least for the foreseeable future). At that point, you are relying on the asset recovery feature to keep your stuff safe.

The only significant change that CCP has coming up that will increase prices due to items outside of player control is the

Not anymore. On sisi every citadel in a system is visible and able to warp to. It got changed a week ago or so. I saw it in todays masstest and the last one.

Yeah I heard about that too, but I'm guessing it's a glitch. I believe the XL (and maybe L) citadels were supposed to be warpable to, but the M ones had to be scanned down. Would seem like a large change to make the POS equivalent warp-able as soon as you enter system.

Accoding to initial plan you can only see those celestial objects, where you have rights to do something. In CCP example you will see only those assembly arrays in overview, where you can start manufacturing work.

So do not give other players the right to dock to your astrohaus and you are safe.

He's correct. If you don't have docking rights, it won't show up on your overview.
Sisi rules just forbid to deny docking rights to people, so you can dock at every citadel and thus see them all on your overview. Working as intended.

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.

I am more interested in knowing how the update is going to affect carriers and if ratting with them is still going to be an option.
If anyone has opinion on this, please share it :)

Are you sure about that? Iirc last time i was on sisi i had to warp to a few citadels to find one where i am allowed to dock.
Maybe they patched it.

well, carriers will get entire new pewpew mechanics. it's going to be possible, but it's going to be very different from what we have today. much less passive from the looks of it.

A Lot of your fears seem unfounded, the only legit one is the price, and not being able to easily pack it up and move it.

A. Small citadels won't be that expensive, but yes, will be a lot more expensive then a small POS.
B. I'm going to assume, manufacturing will be bought to Citadels before POS's are taken away.
C. Citadels are not very vulnerable at all, and unlikely you will lose your assets from one.

Other things to think about, is the the Rorq, which can do compression (not in highsec), and the ship badly needs some changes. Maybe CCP have something up their sleeve with this, or even an entirely new ship for highsec with compression abilities (T2 Orca?)?

In german we have a saying, that goes "Nichts wird so heiss gegessen, wie es gekocht wird" (Nothing is eaten as hot, as it has been cooked.)
I guess, at the time, the control towers will be gone forever, the mid citadel will be available at the market for a fair price of maybe around 700 mill to 1 bill isk.

I can wait.
