If you are trying to make up for lack of player skill with skill points then you are playing this game wrong.

This game is not about max SP and you most certainly don't need all of your scanning skills to level 5 to do anything in this game.

The fact that you are asking this question tells me that you don't understand this game.

The fact that you can't figure this out for yourself tells me that your skill points most certainly are not where the problem lies but you lack of understanding the game.

If you want to buy skills to inject by all means do so. However if you are looking to get better at something my guess is that not that much will change until your personal understanding grows. You can choose to work on that or choose to blame the skill points. The choice is yours.

Scanning is probably one of the PVE activities where character skill levels matters the least I would say. With that said there are a few 'hard to find' sites which you simply canĀ“t find unless you level up your character skills but they are few.

I'm also a bit puzzled on how you can have 3 on all skills since Astro Pinpointing requires L 4 in Astrometrics to train but maybe you where talking about the skills you start with ?

My advice would be to train Astrometrics to L 4 and then get L 2-3 in Pinpointing and that should be enough to scan down nearly any signature you come across.

As with most other skills training for L 5 is sort of 'over the top' and not really needed (atleast not as a new player).

The scanning skills I will try to get to 5 at some time are Astrometrics, Hacking and Archeology and that's only because those skills allows use of more powerful T2 modules when fully trained.

I had all my scanning skills at a minimum level III but now they are IV. it's going to be a really long time before I train those to V.. Honestly that might be better to do on an alt

Forget which Astrometrics skill is like 29 days with a remap, week they are all pretty long so you're looking at like 4 or 5 injectors per skill.

Diminishing returns.

Astrometrics V is worth it if you do a LOT of scanning, the supports can be left at IV unless you're a seriously hardcore combat prober (reading this thread, you aren't)

I'd say that getting your core piloting skills increased is far more important. There's little point in finding good loot if it's quickly taken off you because you can't GTFO.

My scanning alt (all level 5 except for survey) has 6,912,000 skillpoints in scanning, so do the math with skill injectors depending on your character.

I was going to include that all lvl5 scanning skills is around 7mil SP, so 14 or so injectors. That being said you are better off spending that getting Astro to 5 and supports to 4, then buying SOE implants. Although I see very niche situations where you need that kind of probing power.

If you're doing it to run data and relic sites you're wasting your time and money.

The only ones I'd ever consider getting to V are Archaeology, Hacking and Astrometrics (and even that's not necessary).

I have one alt who has Arch and Hack at V and all other astro skills at IV and she comfortably makes 100-150m + per brief session in A T1 frigate dipping in and out of WHs. The only T2 gear I have on those ships is the Relic and Data Analyzer (allowed by the aforementiined skills).

There are also a myriad of modules and implants to get you an extra boost, as well as Sisters probes and launchers but in the vast majority of cases they really aren't necessary.

These are both very true. I wanted to give the exact number, but unless you have a specific need level 5 is a waste of time. Personally I have an alt with all level 5, a SOE scanner, and implants for...reasons.

There are a few "sites" in game that I wish I had implants for, but very few "sites" annoy me that much.

I came across that some time ago. I'll reproduce a modified version here for convenience but wanted to give credit where it's due. I had been taking my own notes along the way and can say that I have not yet encountered any discrepancies. Note that I have not verified the values for every rank of every multiplier, only some, and mostly the ones from rank IV to V that lie at or below the 8x multiplier. All you need to do is add up the total SP cost using the below table, divide by 3/4/500,000 (depending on how many SP you currently get per injector), multiply by the current sell market value of injectors, and finally divide by the current buy market value of plex in order to determine how many you need to sell.

1x multiplier:

Level 1 - 250 SP
Level 2 - 1,164 SP
Level 3 - 6,586 SP
Level 4 - 37,255 SP
Level 5 - 210,745 SP
TOTAL = 256,000 SP

2x multiplier:

Level 2 - 2,328 SP

all lvl 5 scanning skills are really not necessary for PVE.

except lvl 5 hacking that are very useful because you get the t2 analyzers, if you're into data/relic sites.

people max out scanning skills for PVP, so they can hope to scan down an enemy ship so quickly they won't even notice the combat probes in space. if this is the case, you'll also want scanning implants (virtue set).

Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter!

Max skills/scanning implants are by far more useful for non-PvE reasons
