Duplicate names in the CCP DB

Ohai thurr,

I noticed one (or more?) name specifically has multiple ID's. This has lead to quite a few unexplained errors in my code, as I was always under the impression names in EVE are completely unique. (As in, no one can have a corp called 'ItsmeHcK1', etc.)
Can we get a definite answer on whether names are unique? (And if so, what on earth is this?)

As you can see the alliance Bad Intention is not the only one with that name.

fill in a bug report and CCP is much more likely to look into it.

Names aren't unique, I'm afraid.

You'll only have one unique thing active with a name, but inactive things can have the same name as an active thing. (as far as I understand it)

By active do you mean deleted character (soft delete lets call it) or do you mean unsubscribed?

active as in not biomassed/closed, etc.

biomassed characters still exist in doomheim.

Yeah this is working as inteneded. Originally the API would only return the one active name, but it was expanded to include previous IDs used by the name - it's upto you to handle these cases properly. It's kind of important as you may have old API xmls that refer to biomassed or previous corps that use different IDs to the latest incarnation - that kind of thing.
