Alt for hauling...advice needed...

Hi,

I've made an alt to haul items to null for my main, and I was wondering how profitable it would be to haul lots of items from high sec to low sec to sell at an NPC station. And if so, what should I haul? It will need to be small stuff at first, so maybe ammo? Then ships? I don't know. I've got a long history of high-sec mission-running, and I'm trying to branch out.

Does this seem like a good use for this alt, or is there something else that would make more sense?

Thanks in advance.

...I posted this in the market forum as well, but I think it should probably be here instead.

yeah, you can make quite a bit of money by seeding the market in a popular lowsec system.

what you want to sell is the stuff people need in lowsec. drones, ammo, paste, cap boosters, covops ships, cloaks, cynos, fuel, ... all those are good choices to start. at a later point, you want to seed the stuff people need to replace what they lost. if you are seeding in a FW area, that's frigs, destroyers and some cruisers along with the modules required to fit them (look up the killboards for popular things) that's easily a few dozen, if not hundred items and can keep a single person occupied pretty much full time.

good luck !

Thanks a lot for the reply!

I kept hearing people talk about "seeding the market" and had no idea what they were talking about.

So, my plan then is to look at the ships that get blown up a lot in my area and supply those parts. Seems simple, but we'll see how it works in practice.

Thanks again!

I like your idea a lot. As a FW player living in low sec we rely on pilots like you that seeds the markets.

I agree with everything said by Gilbaron. Let me just add a few more tips:

1. You will get blown up in low sec if you are not careful. So best to use a blockade runner (e.g. Crane) or Jump Freighter (e.g. Rhea) to move the goods into Low Sec. The Astero also works nicely for smaller cargo (up to 840m3 with cargo rigs) If you don't have the skills yet, you can use the cloaking trick on your hauler to survive the inevitable gate camps or pirates. Warp Core Stabs will not safe you from a good gate camp :)

2. You can use dotlan and eve-central to find the best systems to seed. dotlan will tell you which systems are most busy (# of jumps) and eve-central which systems already has a market. As a region I would suggest Black Rise - its one of the busiest for FW.

3. You can get a premium on prices if you choose the right system. That will of course not be possible if the system is near high sec hubs, e.g. Ichoriya which is a big market hub for Caldari FW.

Good luck!

One more question ...

I've got a sigil from the tutorial missions, and I'm training towards the t2 version.

Do you know of any good sigil fits for running from Jita to null? I've googled it, but it's hard to know when a fit is current.

Thanks again.

don't run a sigil from jita to null. really. don't. wait until you can fly the T2 versions with a covops cloak

yes seeding market can be profitable, I do so for some things in my own alliances space. However the bulk of my active income comes from filling existing market orders. And at the same time, filling an empty hold for the trip back to a hub, so as to never skip a beat.

I've used this as a guide for finding what is needed and where. It is not perfect so use at own risk.

also yeah, dont run a sigil to null.

I always love the person who listed navy cap boosters in a station at an acceptable price.

Or use your corporation or alliance freight services. Unless you REALLY like doing logistics work...

Usually, you're better served paying for the service if you have reliable alliance freight. You can still seed that same market, but you're not doing the hauling and can use that time for making even more ISK.

I understand that this post is more about the low sec hauling and sales you wish to do, just saying that without jump freighters, null logistics is at least a pain in the ass -- and at worst god-awful expensive as you explode.

Even with JF's its a pain in the ass.

If you're running from high to low a blockade runner and also the deep space transport will serve you well with a good fit. Even the best fit won't save you if the system is crawling with f1 monkeys. Establish some safe spot bookmarks and what not, I usually warp x amount off the gate to see if there's a smart bomber catching fish. If you stock the markets with reasonable prices you can make decent returns without gouging the low sec customers and compete price wise with the regional hub. With affordable pricing combat escalation should increase in the area.

As a speculative trader, if you listed null exclusive items in low sec it could warrant some unwanted attention to the area possibly. Talk to your corp/alliance/coalition and take the grocery list they would buy in Jita and send them to a station in low sec for pickup.

The best advice I could tell you would be to have a freighter service haul your goods in and train remote trade skills so you can set orders within the region to avoid loss of ship, time, isk, and cargo within low sec space.
