Coercer Ratting Fits

So I've been ratting in lowsec for a while, mostly using Punisher/Executioner fits, which are good fun but lack the DPS to do serious damage to some of the rats (Losing a clone soldier transporter hurts!!)

So I was thinking about the Coercer (my drone skills are still low but catching).

Quote:
[Coercer, Coercer PvP]
Small Armor Repairer II
Heat Sink II
Adaptive Nano Plating II

1MN Afterburner II
Cap Recharger II

Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Conflagration S

Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit I

On my current skills, this gives me:
Shields: 770 Armour: 1080 Structure: 920
Cap lasts 1m43
DPS: 236 (168 with scorch S)
Turret Volley Damage: 461 (329 with scorch S)
Mobility: 623 m/s
Sig: 62m

CPU: 114.95/201.6
Powergrid: 76/102

Since I'm new to fitting myself using EFT, I was wondering if someone could perhaps give me better ideas.

The rats I encounter are Blood Raiders. Usually frigs, cruisers, BCs & BSs (not enough of the latter, unfortunately). When it comes to PvP, if I see a frig, I stay and try and fight. If I see something big (which is often the case) or cloaky, I run and hide.

Add:

I can also put out:
Quote:
[Coercer, Coercer PvP]
Small Armor Repairer II
Heat Sink II
Adaptive Nano Plating II

1MN Afterburner II
Cap Recharger II

Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Focused Pulse Laser II, Scorch S

Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit I
Small Ancillary Current Router I

And this gives DPS/Volley: 195/494 with scorch S and 273/691 with conflagration S while the cap lasts 1m6s

I've been waiting for someone else to post since I'm not a PvPer so I am probably not the one to listen to. That being said I don't think you can expect to do ever win any PvP encounter without a point of some sort meaning either a warp disruptor or warp scrambler. Also many PvP fits that I see have a web fit but you also need the prop mod (afterburner) and I know the coercer only has 2 mids. If you are having cap issues there are various low slot mods that can help with that. The PDU ( power diagnostic unit) increases cap size and recharge rate. cap flux coil and cap power relays both in crease cap regen with a drawback one is a hit to shield recharge and the other is to cap amount.

Just so you understand how cap recharge works it is a percentage of total cap at a specific interval so there are 3 factors there if you affect any one of those you affect cap regen. So that means if you increase cap amount or percentage of that amount or decrease the time frame your cap regen will go up, Likewise decreasing any of those will decrease your regen.

Oh dear!! I didn't change the name of the fit. No, the idea isn't to win PvP with this fit. I'm just looking to rat in this fit. So far, most of my PvP encounters have been in an executioner. Besides, the place where I live these days in Eve... well, it is usually gangs of 5-6 who come at once. So 99% of the time, I just align, warp, bounce around amongst my safe spots and then dock.

The fit I'm looking for is just to kill rats (can't do anomalies - so mostly just belt ratting now and then).

This is very helpful, thanks :)

Ideally, I'm looking for the best possible combination of defense vs dps vs cap - which isn't easy when you don't know all the modules (though I've been flirting around with EFT - there are still so many of them!! I missed the power diagnostic units :( )

oh you can get away without tackle if you can smack em hard enough in one or two vollys,
arty thrasher,beam coercer,blaster cat

works with the attack battle cruisers and some of the pirate frigates also.

you pop them before they can warp off,or even realise they're in trouble

if you want to try pvp i would recommend the dragoon, drones, neuts, missiles (or lazorz) , great little ship.

in all honesty though im not all that familiar with the coercer, so i cant give that much advice on it

well if you are just looking for a ratting fit and you are going up against blood raiders then one EM and one Therm resist would help a lot instead of the omni resist you have. but that is if you are having tank issues and having to warp out a lot. It's kind of up to you what you want to prioritize but the best thing to do to learn this game is try out lots of different fits and see what works best for you now understanding that as your skills change so might your priorities.

The coercer is a wonderful little ship. Excellent damage and application, though you will want to get many levels of that Amarr Destroyer (at least 4). This is not for the damage bonus but the 10% to range/lvl.

Scorch is your best friend, your lover who will hold you tight and your light that will keep away the monsters in the dark. But you need range for it to do that. The coercer, VS other small ships, wins by kiting. Align to a celestial, lock up the targets and begin zapping them with overheated guns from 20km away. Hopefully you can kill them before they land a web. Once they get close, switch to multifrquency and cross your fingers.

The problem with the coercer is that is has -NO- tank to speak of. It lacks the powergrid to run an active tank and with a repper you are often choosing "Guns or Tank". Your fit looks alright. I would consider swapping the CCC rigs for Energy Locus Coordinator. You want to be as far away from your target as possible and hitting it as soon as possible. If you want more ISK/Hr you can use an Energy collision rig or Burst rig. These will help you melt targets faster.

You don't need a long cap life. Frigate PVP usually lasts 30-120 frantic seconds and then ends. Your cap can recharge in warp between belts.

When I get home I'll mail you a ratting coercer fit I've used with pretty good success (join my channel and poke me if I forget). It's a great choice against blood raiders because it does the correct damage type.

In the meantime watch this video for some ideas on how to reduce incoming damage (the spiraling part at the end in particular). It works quite well in an AB coercer against cruiser and battleship rats and even will keep you fairly safe from clone soldier rats.

You might want to consider an assault frigate, for example, this Retribution:
[Retribution, lowsec roam + rat]
Small Armor Repairer II
Dark Blood Thermic Plating
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Heat Sink II

1MN Afterburner II
Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I

Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
[empty high slot]

Small Capacitor Control Circuit II
Small Capacitor Control Circuit II

The general wisdom with destroyers is that they absorb way too much incoming damage due to their large size (almost cruiser size), which frigates can avoid. An assault frigate has similar statistics for damage and tank, but due to its higher speed and smaller signature radius it's actually a lot more viable for PVE against larger ships.

+1 for assault frigates,
somewhat overshadowed by the tactical destroyers but capable of surprising things.

The Retribution there is meant for ratting in lowsec, just has the scram and an omni-tank to take on targets of opportunity. It would want to avoid anything with neuts or anything bigger than itself likely to have a web.

Thanks a ton everyone!

@ergherhdfgh: Choices, choices, choices!!! Yes, I was using specific hardeners on my coercer before when I was missioning L2s with it. Trouble is, it fills two out of three low slots. That's why I was looking at single hardener/membrane to be able to fit a rep & a heat sink while still tanking a little damage (even if it won't be as good as having specific hardeners).

@Daerrol Yes, I'm absolutely in love with Coercers too!! Keep wishing for that extra low slot though, and an extra mid come to think of it :D For PvP, yes, you are right, cap isn't an issue. Most of my 'deaths' have happened way too fast to even know if I clicked all the buttons !!! But when ratting, I find that cap helps a little. I'm not worried about being capstable or anything. But just enough to... well... kill those buggers!

@Cara: Hey!!! I'd love that ratting fit! I watched the video. It is excellent. I don't know who owns the site and who made the video, but both did a stand up job (and if you are/can read this: thanks a million !!) I've been doing something similar against clone soldier transports without realizing what I was doing (I just double clicked in space to get a bit of angular velocity whenever I saw hits coming). Recently, I was trying to down one with a punisher. I managed to avoid all damage and get into a sweet 1000m orbit with conflag. But just couldn't hit it hard enough and fast enough to make a dent in its armour before two condors and someone else (I ran before I could see what ship it was) arrived. Hence another try with a coercer.

@Phig Neutron: Hey Phig. Yes, Assault Frigs are next on my list. But just waiting for skills to catch up - mainly fitting, but also frigate V, hull V, etc. Right now, I'm at that stage of my skill training where everytime I train a new skill and see that I can now fit another T2 module, my face breaks up in a wide smile (yes, yes, all noob pleasures :D) I'd like them to be my first T2 fits (having shelved the idea of graduating to cruisers/battlecruisers for now - I'd love to stay within frig/dessie parameters for the foreseeable future).

This, this right here is a good, nay; fantastic attitude. I nominate Cellini for the Golden Newbie award for March 2015 if and when we establish such a thing.
