Anti-Aliasing alternatives?

In light of the Art and Graphics Panel at Fanfest that revealed that temporal anti-aliasing is coming to EvE, will we also be able to see alternatives to the AA technique currently used in EvE?

Unless I'm mistaken, the AA currently in the game is post-processed. It would be cool to have an option for native alternatives, like MSAA.

Post processed? You can use the settings in your gfx driver's thingy.

Works for me.

Another alternative is just to have high resolution screen and play the game at 4k. Higher (4k/8k) resolutations often eliminate almost any need for AA.

It's a lot easier (and way less expensive) to have a better AA than build a whole new system around a 4k screen. Though if you have a spare $5,000.00 then 4k is definitely the way to go.

But you need to be a serious gamer to drop that kind of cash and most MMO players simply aren't that hardcore. They're playing on 5 year old laptops for the most part. So any optimization of AA is a good thing for them. And there are some good optimizations in the pipe. Especially from Nvidia.

I've tried this but haven't gotten it to work.

Scroll down to Art & Graphics and read what it says there. Temporal anti-aliasing.

In the panel he mentioned something along the lines of "we'll probably use this new temporal AA to replace the MSAA" implying that we already have MSAA.

Well, if it is MSAA we have already, it would be neat to control it a little bit more. I find the anti-aliasing in stations for example not to be nearly good enough.

Maybe the game uses different AA techniques for space and stations? If I recall it correctly, the station environment uses a separate renderer.

Good luck reading Eve's unscalable fonts at 4k.

You can already do this.

All you have to do is set your graphics driver to override the game's AA settings. Then you have all of the control your graphics driver gives you. And usually this gives you better performance because you can set it to use the special AA modes your graphics card is best at.

It's too bad that nVidia's DSR doesn't work so well with EVE.

The UI scaling needs to go up to like 200% and there's a strange offset with the mouse with where it appears to be and where the clicks actually occur.

If I do this with the nvidia control panel, am I supposed to turn off the in-game AA?

Not necessarily. You can set the antialiasing mode to "enhance the application setting".

I usually leave AA completely off, but sometimes I like to set all of my graphics to max, both in NVidia control panel and in game, just to admire the visuals.

About the Fontsize on 4k-monitor:
With UI-scaling on 110% or 125% i had serious trouble to different some letters, like O and D i.e.
With a standard 100% it's just way too small to read. Pixelsize on my 28" is 0.15mm, resulting in 1,5mm for a capital-letter at fontsize of 10.
UI-scaling 150% works well for me.

About the AA-settings:
I'm using ingame-AA-settings on Low, because higher settings are stressing my single GPU too much for no recognizable benefit.
And i notice serious differences in the fps between Sumpersampling and adaptive-AA in the driversettings.

I'm using a Radeon R9 290X, what means i can't tell you anything about the behavior of a Geforce-card and its driver.
