Are drifters going to be just another gang bang job?

I haven't been spending any time on the test server but from the sound of it drifters are going to be just another site which requires me to "make new friends" in order to run and make money. If this is the case I am going to be sorely disappointed.
Really hoping that something of the drifters will come in the form of a manageable site/interaction that can be worked by a very small group of people if not solo for a very skilled pilot and I don't mean the equivalent of scout incursions which are a:not fun and b:don't pay worth a damn.
PLEEEEAAAAAASE CCP throw us a freaking bone here!
I imagine at this point it's way to late to beg as it's ready to go and the system is in place.
Here's to hoping there's something here to actually challenge the more skilled solo and small group pilots of New Eden.

Damn near everything can be done solo. Its about time CCP made you lot play the multiplayer part of this MMO.

I don't know how you'd hope to fight something with a doomsday solo, unless you can beat the AI with on-grid warping or some other trick. There's plenty of other friendless PvE content though, so what's the problem?

Yeah have done the big alliance thing on & off for years including fighting for PL early on and then later goons. Believe it or not that can get old too.
Would like to try OTHER things you know?

I expect we will get a dev blog or more 'Scope' broadcasts on the Drifters on Monday or Tuesday at the latest. Actually just more 'Scope' broadcasts and no dev blog would be more fun!! I'm actually surprised we haven't had it already as there will have to be some kind of reward or incentive or new LP type. Otherwise there will be no reason to engage with these new Drifter battleships. The alternative to this scenario being that the Drifters attack us on sight without us making the first move. But they aren't doing that on the test server yet.

Not sure if you have accessed the current information gleaned on the Drifters or not ? They will have an additional shield layer and fire doomsday type weapons before their armour is damaged. Their weapons kill instantaneously so at least one ship in each fleet of ships that goes against them will be destroyed. In that sense they will be totally different to Incursions where pilots look to not losing any ships during a battle. So pilots will have to organise into fleets to destroy the Drifters and the larger and more powerful the fleet the better. Possibly if it is large enough the loss of one fleet members ship will be avoidable. If the Drifters are allowed to pod kill us as well then the danger factor will be upped still further. Smile

I actually had read that. Just because the drifters have a miniature doomsday however doesn't necessarily guarantee them a kill.
In one of the drone 10/10 complexes the drone mother fires a torp I think that does something along the order of 50,000 damage and that site is quite soloable. So there still remains the possibility and the hope that very small groups or even highly skilled solo pilots might be allowed to have some fun here.

IIRC the mini-doomsday weapon will do something around 180,000 omni damage. I'd love to see you solo that in a sub-cap.

Before resists ? Depends how often it fires. A passive tanked rattler or a Marauder in Bastion could take the Alpha and maybe a couple more shots. But after that they would be fried even with decent Logi.

There are plenty of single player games out there. Why are you playing an MMO an then complaining that it is multiplayer? I left WoW because they effectively made that a single player game now. If CCP makes everything in this game soloable I'll have to find another game to play.

I am not saying that I do everything in groups but I think that the most profitable content in this game should be group based and the solo content should be less profitable. Heck I'd love to see a mechanic that made mining yield fleet and in game skill dependent. Say for example the more people that you have in fleet and the more m3 per person per time frame that they yield as compared to the theoretical maximum then they get bonus to yield over time. Make mining a fleet thing and you have something.

I dont' have any issue with you wanting to play a solo game I just don't understand why you want to turn this MMO into one.

Three Plate Trimark Kronos can do it.

I think you need to re-read the post. I'm arguing for small group combat as much as anything else and i'm talking about adding not removing content. Expanding gameplay to appeal to a broader playerbase does not mean turning it into a single player game.

If I recall, it fires when you take down the first shield layer and has a 5 minute cooldown before it fires again.

On SiSi, a triage carrier *barely* survived in structure.

if a carrier can barely survive it then it either does much more than 180k dmg or you really need to tank your carrier.

the screenshot I remember seeing was 180k damage to a carrier with 80% resists.

Okay, as the owner of said carrier.

1) It was not a triage carrier. It was a reasonably well tanked chimera with drones. And links. Links made all the difference.

2) It dropped to 5% shield after the doomsday taking about 170K damage against ~80% resists. No quadplated marauder can survive THAT.

3) If that was a triage chimera, it would not be DDed at all. I've ran some tests on SiSi, and it appears that drifters do not doomsday ships they can not point. That, by definition, includes all ships immune to EWAR. Namely marauders in bastion or dreads in siege (that's what I've tested. Didn't try supers or titans because don't have one).

4) Possibe ways to solo a drifter (as it was on SiSi the day before tiamat release):

- A well tanked carrier (as I've mentioned a chimera survived. It had an em ward amp, 2 invuls and siege links).

- A marauder in bastion by virtue of being immune to EWAR. Note that to kill a drifter you'd better use a vargur with dual 425s with tracking ammo or a kronos, because tracking is life. Consider a single drifter doing somewhere along 1000-1300 DPS. They sometimes come in pairs (those also have lower signature), so you'd better have 2500ish tank and possibly some drugs (blue pill/exile for emergency tanking and drop if you lack tracking).

- A dread. And by a dread I mean phoenix. It's the only dread that can apply at least SOME damage on BSes doing 2K at 19km orbit. You WILL need crash. And painters. And better have faction webs with links to web those guys at 19km. The duo-drifters,as mentioned above, have smaller sigs (and more raw HP), so application on them is terribad, and webs greatly help. Solo drifters die to dual painter phoenix like flies without any webs applied.

- Assigned fighters. An expensive orderal taking advantage of "advanced" AI. You assign fighters to any ship. You get 5 fighters. You apply them to a drifter (DO NOT SHOOT it yourself - you WILL get DDed). Before losing the blue shield the drifter will kill one fighter. After losing the blue shield the drifter will kill one more fighter. It will not aggro on the other fighters anymore, so you trade 2 fighters for a drifter, which is currently quite a stupid bargain because you get only bragging rights for all the trouble.

sure sounds to me like you don't want to have to make friends in an MMO.

I've looked all over I can't seem to find a thread on how to get these Drifters to spawn or how to find them or just anyone's experience in fighting them. I want to try them out but I've tried a few things to attempt to get a Drifter BS to spawn with no luck.
