Anyone else got problems with getting disconnected with the socket error message? When this happens I also lose contact with the forums. All other services on the net works perfectly, only EVE.

I live in Denmark, I'm on a very stable 80/80 Mbit fiber connection.

From this the following can be concluded:

It's not a client software error.
It's not the server that crashes, since it's not all that're affected, so probably not a DDoS attack.
It's probably a problem along my trace route to the server, while it's not my entry point at my ISP since all other services work fine.

Could anyone of you reading this report if you have the same problems? Thanks.

Yeah, Yesterday one of my accounts disconnected, tried logging it back in, but launcher was in offline mode. 5 minutes later second account disconnected, and launcher was in offline mode for 10 more minutes. Forums were down too.

Thanks for the feedback, always good not to be the only one.

This started happening to me yesterday, and seems to happen to me about every half an hour (or worse, the correlation seems directly related to how important it is for me to not be disconnected. The more important it is for me to stay online, the less likely I am to keep my connection.)

It looks like this has been happening for years, since about 2012. There are a lot of forum posts about it, and it seems to come in waves. Some people fix it by getting a new router, some by switching to a hardwire connection, ultimately the issue is caused because there's packet loss between us and CCP. The connection isn't dropped, exactly, and so sometimes you'll see other clients stay online, or still be able to use other online services, but at some point you lose enough packets that the server just quits trying, and "closes the socket"

There's a few fixes that have been posted, like using EvE's alternate port (which I assume helps because there's less traffic. It didn't fix the problem for me). Ultimately, it's most likely a combination of things. Spotty wifi, not optimal router settings, traffic on vital routes on the way to CCP. Things just build up and you lose connection. Sometimes it'll take 30 seconds, other times you'll last hours.

The thing I don't get is why you (and me, too) lose connection to other services when the EvE socket closes. I can sit on TS3, or youtube, or download things all day long without a single issue, even while playing EvE, but when the socket closes, it interrupts everything else for a few seconds before my connection re-establishes.

I want to clarify that I didn't lose connection to other services while EVE closed socket. The fact that you did indicates that the problem with connectivity was on your end.

The Socket problem as I see it is something to do with the connectivity from client to server, where on that line the problem occurs doesn't matter. But it can happen in the following 3 parts of the data traffic route:

At client (symptoms, all your internet services stop working for the duration of the error, problem could be with your router or ISP)

On route (symptoms, all your other internet services work fine while EVE doesn't work, problem could be internet relays to the server going down)

At server (symptoms, all other players lost connection to the EVE server as well, problem lies with the EVE server or the ISP that's servicing the EVE server)

For the record, my EVE is fine now.
