ORE Ship Line Extended

I know, I know, we don't need them, there's better to do, etc. but let's assume there are a few hours too much sunshine in Iceland and CCP gets taken over by a massive carebear epidemic. Bear

Here's playing with ideas on what kind of ships could be added without too much redundancy or power creep. Maybe before the 25th anniversary they will look at mining so let's provide them with some ideas to start off with.

Frigate
  • T1 : Venture
  • T2 : Prospect
We have those. They're good. Let's keep them.

Destroyer
(around double normal destroyer cost)

  • T1 : Drone Miner and Salvager
10% increase in Drone Yield and Velocity
5% reduction of Savager duration

With a 6/3/2 slot layout and four turrets for mining lasers make it a viable drone miner when not on salvage duty. 25/50 bandwidth/bay force a choice between salvage/mining/combat drones, around 7.5k ore hold to make it better than a Venture but not intrude on Barge territory and 750 base cargo for loot make it an interesting ship for a miner more interested in agile mining.

  • T2 : Salvaging Specialist
5% reduction in Tractor Beam duration
60% bonus to Tractor Beam range and velocity
4% bonus to all shield resistances

This one effectively replaces the Noctis, price in T2 materials will be around the price of a Noctis, all existing ships can be switched around. The Primae hull always seemed like a choice of convenience rather than intent. A destroyer sized hull would be much more appropriate and a T2 ship more fitting to the highly specialized role and level of efficiency it has. Maybe switch the T1 drone yield bonus for salvage access, drop bay to 25 and drop all turrets, but make it a 8/4/2 slot layout, which is above what a destroyer sized hull usually sports. Improve cargo to around 1-1.5k.

Cruiser

  • T1 : Shield Logistics and limited Foreman
25% bonus to Shield Transporter transfer amount
3% bonus to Mining Foreman Links effectiveness
Role bonus: Can use one Warfare Link

Providing entry level foreman role and basic anti-blap. With only one active link at a time, it does not intrude into the Orca or even BCs for command role, but gives it a purpose to be on the field and a entry level ship in the Foreman role for aspiring miners. The logistic portion is effective in a maintenance and emergency situation, offering high transfer amounts but limited range and sustainability, which leaves it out of a combat role compared to other logistic cruisers.

  • T2 : Universal Repairs and Maintenance
25% bonus to Remote Armor Repairer transfer amount
25% bonus to Remote Hull Repairer transfer amount

Towers, turrets, sov structures and other shot up stuff, this one can fix them all from ground up. Limited range and difficult sustainability puts it plain outside a combat role and is mainly for maintenance. Maybe replace the T1 bonus to Foreman Links with a 40% bonus to Energy Transfer Array transfer amount to make them easier sustainable when working in tandem.

Battlecruiser

  • T1 : Planetary Command and Survey
1 step increase in the resolution of Resource Data when scanning a planet
20% bonus to ship Planetary Commodity and Planetary Command Center Hold (10k/3k base)
Role bonus: +100% to Remote Sensing distance

The Primae as it should have been. A fully focused planetary interaction supporting ship. Sure, it's not a hauler, but the 10k base commodity hold is more than enough for moving products from the planets to the home base. The 3/4/4 slot layout is more than compensated for with a low 150m signature radius, high sensor strength of 30 and a 3 AU/s warp speed. All existing Primae get changed to a Primae ORE Development Edition skin.

  • T2 : Covert Planetary Command and Survey
5% bonus to ship Inertia Modifier
5% bonus to Warp Speed and Warp Acelleration
Role bonus: Can fit Covert Ops Cloaking Device, Cloak Reactivation Delay reduced to 5 seconds

Basically everything the T1 does only with added mobility and a coops cloak. Main purpose is to do PI in wormholes and other hostile space. Without any combat capabilities, not being there is its only way to survive. A 3/6/4 slot layout should allow enough utility for a wider virety of tastes.

Battleship

  • T1 : Small Freighter
5% bonus to ship Cargo Capacity
5% bonus to ship Max Velocity

A small freighter that starts where the DST ends and ands before the Freighter starts with around 75-100k base Cargo bay. A 1/3/2 slot layout with battleship mobility and base tank makes it the ship of choice for not so voluminous and not so valuable items to carry from and to the market or just from A to B.

  • T2 : Mobile Facilities
1% bonus to Base Reprocessing Yield
7.5% reduction in Repair Facility nanite use
Role bonus: Can fit Facility Modules (Repair Shop, Reprocessing, Compression, Clone Vat Bay, Fitting)

Providing station facilities without a station. Granted, this is everything a Rorqual should do, so maybe move all of it there and just scrap a T2 ORE battleship size.

Why?
What do these ships add that isn't already in the game or is there a specific need for them?
What can these ships do that can't already be done better by another ship?

Or special ice miners for the Prospect and the hull bonus working tech2 gas harvesters would be cool, but I know it's too much to expect from that ship in th first place.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

Concerning the stuff on the list maybe not exactly as listed however...

Supported:
Salvaging destroyer.
Cause would be a low cost option for newer players, and sometimes the noctis is overkill / or you would want the speed.
Lots of room to work in between noctis and current t1 salvage destroyers.

Indifferent:
PI boats

Would oppose:
Cruisers
Ore really isn't logi

Hauling battleship
Not special enough. Might replace alternatives.

T2 salvage destroyer
I can't support something that would replace the noctis. Could support something that offers tradeoffs

I've always thought it would be nice to have a ship centered around the idea of drone mining.

I can't say exactly why we specifically need one though.

A mining drone boat I get behind, the rest not so much. As a suggestion of my own I'd toss out something that can fit the equivalent of a strip miner but for gas clouds.

Actually, I'd get behind a drone mining battleship that is based off of the Exhumer/Mining Barge skillset. Fluff it up as a militarized extended Procurer/Skiff that was reequipped to mine primarily with a full flight of modified mining drones while carrying 4 heavy turrets and remote projectors for shield/armor repair. The T1 one would provide a moderate to somewhat major bonus to drones, but the T2 one has a penalty that increases the bandwidth of mining drones to that of heavy drones while buffing the mining rate up to 75-80% of that of a Skiff. While also carrying enough bandwidth and drone bay space to fly a full flight of mining drones while wink-wink-nudge-nudge suggesting with the extra capacity that maybe it should carry a backup flight of heavy drones.

Fluff them up as ORE's response to Incursions and/or the rising Sleeper threat potential to their operations, forcing them to design a new combat-oriented vessel that can still mine well enough to be worth taking on an expedition without compromising the protection of the fleet. If a further penalty for a relatively scary ship (four heavy guns plus full flight of heavy drones) is necessary, you could fiddle with the numbers to only fly 4 heavy drones and maybe skill it up like a pirate vessel. I've been thinking lately how much lack of love the ore ships seem to have theirs now tier 3 Exhumer or frigate .

When I dream bigger I start thinking of Ore Titan ( Moblie space station/manufacturing platform is what i've been thinking of with a POS shield mode.).

+1 to salvage destroyer.
-1 for mining destroyer

Leave mining to frigates/cruisers
Leave support to destroyers/BCs (salvage/boost/logi)
Develop a BS class ship to fill a role that isn't already used by ORE - I would even settle for a smaller version of a bowhead designed to haul cruisers and smaller.

Redisign the Orca and Rorqual ships into more finite roles.
Orca could be the booster/drone miner
Rorqual - can fill in the gaps or be something more awesome then a "sit in POS" boat.

Hello boys,

I've posted a topic earlier today but I didn't notice this one before ! So I'd like to share my thoughts with you :

ORE CAPITAL MINING CARRIER

Features :

Ore ship --> that implies she requires Ore skills and gives Ore bonuses and has Ore attributes.
Capital ship --> Slow mining boat, can cynojump.
Mining --> Considering the size, she'd have great ore bonuses (yeld, modules...)
Carrier --> My fav part of the idea, "Fighter-sized" Mining Drones, Cynojump ability, basic logistic abilities.
She shall not replace or make Orcas/Exhumers/Rorquals useless !

Ship Requirements :

Mining Barge Level V
Astrogeology Level V
Advanced Spaceship Command V
Capital Ships Level II
Jump Drive Operation Level I
Capital Industrial Ships Level I
Ore Capital Carrier

Mining Triage Requirements :

Science Level V
Mining Level V
Tactical Mining Reconfiguration Level I

Capital Mining Drones Requirements :

Leadership Level V
Drones Level V
Drone Interfacing Level V
Capital Mining Drones Level V

I keep suggesting and support of adding new type of ORE miner but only if it's equal or bigger than Orca.
All those smaller hulls just a laugh.

So a really good step is to convert Orca into T2 version and apply those features that you've proposed.
With only couple of new features. We still missing a Capital size mining devices - either Capital Strip Miner I or Mining Drones of adequate size and mining ammount.

Salvaging is a good area to explore, though I think they would be better served by making the Noctis and Marauder Tractor beam range bonuses a salvaging chance bonus, or cycle time reduction. Reason being mobile tractor units have encroached on those two ships heavily, and it's more efficient to run salvagers on Nocti and Marauders and leave the tractoring to MTUs.

As for mining, I know nothing about it, or what miners' needs are, so.

This - right here!

To break your thread down.....

  • venture and propect.... you admit we have those (even if they don't mine ice, they're good enough.....)
  • Destroyer - I see that looks rather simlar to an algos or perhaps a talwar, if you take out the bonuses (but you've missed the major point - you'll probably have difficulty fitting mining lasers on it...... and they'll eat cap)
  • T2 desty - how is this different from the noctis? although I imagine you want it to have the speed of a 'dictor? welllll no, flat out OP
  • cruiser - hmmmm, the bonus is interesting purely as a burst rep...... but you can pretty much do it with an osprey, using large reps, so you actually get more rep from the osprey. but now imagine this being fed cap from a pair of basilisks...... what's it going to do then? because people WILL do this. you'll obsolete the scythe, osprey and possibly the scimi too!
  • T2 cruiser - I'd like to see a hull with a bonus to hell RR, but don't think this is the way to do it...... it needs range, and cap use, because for things like POS's - it's AFK work. so set 1 rep to each gun, come back in 2 hrs time
  • T1 BC - why will anyone use this over an even half-way skilled epithal? pointless ship, except for deployment of PI - focus a bit more on that, and it might be worth it......
  • T2 BC - I'll take a blockade runner, I think........ another pointless ship
  • T1 BS - interesting..... but I think it should be down as another ore industrial....... - also, were you aware that BS's generally have a faster align than indys?
  • T2 BS - this'd be abused the hell out of but would be .... interesting as a mobile base..... WAIT - it's everything the rorq should be doing.......

in short - you want to:
- obolete a load of current ships (from each race, each of which has choices associated)
- provide a smaller new ships to do the work of those current ships (presumeably with new models) which are mostly OP, and have only 1 option for each job (and generally take less time to skill into)
- introduce a smaller number of ships that will be so UP no-one will use them

I am an INCH(!) away from telling you go go back to WOW

if you want to keep talking about a few of the hulls, I'd be interested (T2 cruiser - hull rep bonus & mini-freighter)
if you want to talk about ways to make the rorq or primae useful, I'd be interested.

PLEASE can your next post show that you've read and thought about the comments posted?
