Bookmarks that can be set to expire.

As I suggested on Twitter and others before me:

It would be nice if bookmarks could have an expiration date of 48 hours to auto-delete. This is specifically geared towards bookmarking wormholes, but it can have other applications as well. Perhaps even a customization timer on when to delete, but 48 hours is the max life for a wormhole and I figured that is what it would most likely be used for.

Good idea ! Saves a lot of time cleaning up bm's and also makes CCP's database smaller. Blink

This'd make for a nice QoL improvement.

very useful idea. I'd be OK with 12, 24, and 48 hour expiration. it would be nice to have the timer follow the bookmark, so that if I copy it to cargo and give it to someone, it will still expire.

I'd rather not have it automatically delete itself, however. old wormhole locations are good for recycling into safes off the ecliptic. a red "expired" status (in text) would be ok too.

it would be excellent if I had a choice between deletion and a notification in place.

I support this idea, preferring the option to expire be the default with a VERY CLEAR checkbox in the bookmark creation dialog that could be unchecked for bookmarks I want to keep in perpetuity.

Why?

I just place WH bookmarks in a sub folder and if required create a second one (with the date mentioned in the folder name). No problem to delete folders with names older than 2 days.

While this would likely save time for players and keep the EvE database small, I worry about how much throughput it will take to process every single new bookmark to see if they need to be kept or removed. I'm sure CCP could tackle it.

If it is a corp bookmark then you need a special role to delete any that are not yours.

It also doesn't scale well for wormhole purposes. There are some wormholes that last two days, some that last 1 day, some that last only 16 hours. Then there are wormholes that are at their end of life (<= 4 hours).

If you don't want it deleted, you could also use one that does not expire so CCP don't have to code the expire without deleting code path.

Or do this, but give us the ability to "Delete all Expired", and then the second function of "Save Bookmark" so like the WH used for safe spots, after it expires you edit the BM and "Save" it which removes the time and the Red.
