There's also the 2% material reduction and 25% time reduction from the arrays themselves. But if it works out not financially feasible to use a POS, stations work fine. With the slot limit removed, a POS is no longer a necessity.

Diversify your use of your POS. Singular usage POS are currently a waste of ISK, nevermind fuel costs.

^^ this!

You generally will see POS in low sec and null sec where there is either moon mining, reactions or both taking place inside of the POS. If you are a small corp, you may only have 1-2 POS, so you can sometimes throw on an additional lab or assembly array onto your reaction tower. This way, your fuel costs should be covered by the reactions you are cooking, and the lab or assembly array is performing additional functions with no additional expenses for fuel.

I recently came back to game after a couple years away and was surprised to find the ISK charge for jobs in my own POS lab. It doesn't make sense, game-wise. Why would my corp charge itself a fee for running a job on a tower facility that it is already paying to fuel and defend?

The unions got together and forced the empires to pass regulation to prevent exploitation of the workforce.
Your corp's not charging the fee, it's going to the SCC iirc, it's to pay those poor workers we've been exploiting for years. :-)
