Launcher patch versus repair.exe patch

Something interesting that I realized a few days ago and reconfirmed yesterday and today...
If I patch through the launcher, the download is slow (as slow as 100 KB/s).
If I run repair.exe and patch that way, I reach higher download speeds, averaging around 2-3 MB/s.

For some reason, the launcher does a poor job downloading patch data.
I have Gigabit Internet connection and other games patch at 20-30-40 MB/s.
