Crowdsourcing is a quick and effective way to help robots learn new things, like tending a garden or setting a table, according to a fresh research conducted by University of Washington researchers.

The researchers used the 2014 Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers International Conference on Robotics & Automation in Hong Kong to demonstrate how crowdsourcing information from the Internet community could help robots learn faster.

Rajesh Rao, a professor of computer science & engineering at the University of Washington, said they were working on a technique that would allow robots to seek help from the online community to learn new things.
Speaking on the topic, Rao said, "We're trying to create a method for a robot to seek help from the whole world when it's puzzled by something. This is a way to go beyond just one-on-one interaction between a human and a robot by also learning from other humans around the world."

He pointed out that robots can learn by imitating humans but such an approach can consume a lot of time. For instance, it may require numerous repetitions and a long time to help a robot learn how to hold a plate or load things in properly.
On the other hand, crowdsourcing allows robots to choose the best model based on difficulty and similarity to the original objects from hundreds of crowd-generated models available online.

I dont know how good of an idea this is. Imagine you are getting your robot to help you with a difficult task...it references the internet...turns to you and say....."HTFU noob."

Then robots will find a way to communicate with each other over the internet and they'll decide humanity is not necessary for their existance, in fact, humanity is too unstable to provide a save environments for robots to exist.
And thus skynet was born.

Or something like that.
