So i started out on a mission once to get my standings for minmatar and gallente to 10.0, as a result i drove my amarr and caldari standings into the ground, now im not complaining about that or even care about recovering them, however with a standing of over 9 what is it actually good for? nothing much as far as i can tell.

Someone told me that it had something to do with the placement of highsec POS, however with the summer expansion even that looks like its no longer going to be linked to your faction standings, so whats it good for guys? any ideas?

There was just a thread here a day or so ago with longer list.

These are both corporation standings based, aren't they?

I only thought faction standings had to do with POS tower anchoring and deciding whether or not you got your face shot at in enemy Empire space or what level of mission agents you were limited to for the entire faction.

So, after the summer expansion faction standings will pretty much only be used to punish, not reward.

Faction standings were stopping new players being awesome cos they took to long to grind and new players are not patient little campers.

Hence after summer, any faction standings over 5 will have limited use. You can POS it up as much as you like.

If you get them upto 9.9 ish you can get a few faction ship BPCs. Uh... yeah, taxes is the big one now really.

Thing is, they really didn't.

Run the tutorials a couple times. Run SoE epic arc. Then cycle between turning in tags and running some cosmos missions. Don't do combat missions? Buy the needed items from someone that does.

Super easy to get to 5 to unlock all L4 missions. Wasn't more than a week of casual play to get above 7 for high sec POS in highest system that was available in the past.

If you are grinding faction standing via the storyline after every 16 regular missions, then you are doing it WRONG!

Locator agents.

Get 5+ standing with a faction, go to a locator agent of theirs, ask them where another player is, go there and shoot him in the face. Beautiful, and how mercenaries regularly operate in hisec.

I have removed some rule breaking posts.

The Rules:
5. Trolling is prohibited.

Trolling is a defined as a post that is deliberately designed for the purpose of angering and insulting other players in an attempt to incite retaliation or an emotional response. Posts of this nature are disruptive, often abusive and do not contribute to the sense of community that CCP promote.

26. Off-topic posting is prohibited.

Off-topic posting is permitted within reason, as sometimes a single comment may color or lighten the tone of discussion. However, excessive posting of off-topic remarks in an attempt to derail a thread may result in the thread being locked, or a forum warning being issued.

OK normally I enjoy it when you scrub us but I resent that! Singing is perfectly on-topic if OP posts lyrics in thread title. We weren't even being naughty. Yet >.>

Standings.

HUH.

Yeah.

What is it good for?

Absolutely nothing.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?
