Training a skill to level 1 isn't much of a barrier.

I dunno. Training a rank 5 skill that uses an oddball attribute mapping (not per/will or int/mem) to level 5 is a bit of a time sink and actually takes longer than any other single tech 2 weapon system in most cases. (ie: ppl with the super common per/will or int/mem maps)

If sentry drones needed the drone specialization skills then they would either do too much DPS (since they would now get a damage bonus from the spec skill) or we would have to nerf there base DPS so that a perfectly skilled toon would do about the same DPS with them as they do now. The former is OP and the latter would make the already long training time even longer.

Although as Malcanis pointed out training the spec skill to level 1 is pretty fast. So I guess the real question is how much training in the spec skill should be needed to get sentry DPS back up to its current level.

While I am a bit uncomfortable with the "one skill to get them all" way that sentry training currently works I am not sure if any changes are really needed. Then again it would finally give people a reason to train Amarr and Caldari drone spec.

Different types of combat drones:

* Light & Medium
* Heavy
* Sentries
* Fighters
* Bombers

There are separate skills for specializing in each of them.
