Hello everyone. I played for a bit sometime in 2007, I created this as my second character to be a Drake level 3 mission runner. I never really thought of doing PVP in the past, but I've been wanting to try out nullsec when I get enough skills trained. Could anyone take a look at my skills and tell me what I need to add and/or skill up in the next few months before I start skilling up for ship types? Should I be finishing Drones 5 and Scout Drone 5? What other core skills should I get to 5? I realize I have alot of core skills left to train, and have been using the Mastery page as a rough guide, achieving Mastery 1 today.

When I was a kid, I was always pushing for Battleships and bigger without really realizing I wouldn't have the skills to actually fly it effectively. I'm content running L3 missions with my Drake for now, and have all pre-req's done to move up to a Battleship for Tier 4, but I would like to eventually PVP with the smaller ships like cruisers. I have Spaceship Command 5, so I'm in a position to branch into other races ships, but I'm wondering if I should finish Caldari Cruiser 5 to get the Cerberus. Are there any smaller ships I should have set as my long term goal? What about weapons? I'm assuming turrets for mid/close range cruiser combat?

Also, with Heavy Missiles getting nerfed as I have read about, should I be training HAMs now? I currently have Heavy Missiles 4 from back when Drakes could fit 7 launchers that could hit from 70km.

Thanks in advance for any answers and advice, I'll check back when I can.

If you could post your character on EVEboard, we could give you better advice what skills to look at next.

OK, well one thing to keep in mind is that generally Caldari doesn't use that many drones and mainly uses missiles. That said, you want to make sure you can use the maximum amount, and at least t2. Same for launchers.

In your situation, I would train some core skills first. Simply because they will apply to every single ship you will fit and fly in the future. You appear to be in a mainly intelligence/memory attribute map, so focus on those first. One thing I would suggest though is that in the beginning it's great to use a balanced remap, you'll want to go to a focused one (pure Int/Mem or Perc/Wilp) soon enough.

As for ships to PvP in, the t1 frigates and cruisers are great. Condors and Merlins (with blasters or rails) aren't bad frigates. I would not advice getting a Cerberus just yet, because you're lacking a lot of the support skills. Your ship will just not be effective, it'll have low dps, EHP, ... IF you want to go with cruisers, try Caracals first, although really try roaming in frigates. Pick your targets and you'll be good.

I've added in Assault frigates and Interceptors because they really are cool to fly and allow you to engage a larger range of targets. The good thing about them is that they are pretty cheap as well. You can fit a Crow or a Hawk for like 25 mill. You will get destroyed from time to time so don't get anything too expensive. Personally, I would suggest you buy like 20 Condors and get used to flying those before trying bigger ships.

As for the weapon system of choice, generally I would suggest to pick one. missiles or turrets. Both are alright. Eventually you could try both (see my EVEboard link at the bottom) but for now I would advice you to focus on missiles.

I would suggest you train:

Armor:
- Hull Upgrades 4 (more armor HP)
- Mechanics 5 (more hull HP - needed for assault frigates)
Drones (Requires Perc/Wilp remap):
- Drones 5 (needed for t2)
- Scout Drone Operation 5 (needed for t2)
- Gallente Drone Specialization 4 (Allows t2 drones and Gallente drones rock)
- Drone Sharpshooting 4 (more drone DPs)
- Drone Navigation 4 (drones get to the target faster)
- Drone Interfacing 4 (more drone DPS)
Electronic Systems:
- Propulsion Jamming 4
- Electronic Warfare 4
- Target Painting 4 (a lot of Caldari ships use TPs)
- Weapon Disruption 4 (just a great ewar skill)
Engineering:
- Advanced Weapon upgrades 4 (takes a long time but makes fitting stuff easier)
- Capacitor Management 5 (more cap)
- Capacitor Systems Operations 5 (better cap recharge)
- CPU management 5 (more CPU, easier fitting)
- Electronic Upgrades 5 (easier fitting)
- Energy Grid Upgrades 5 (easier fitting)
- Power Grid Management 5 (needed for assault frigs)
- Thermodynamics 4 (overheating!)
Gunnery (Requires Perc/Wilp remap)
(you can skip this for now if you want to do missiles)
Missiles (Requires Perc/Wilp remap):
- Guided Missile Precision 4
- Missile Bombardment 4
- Missile Projection 4
- Rapid Launch 4
- Target Navigation Prediction 4
- Warhead Upgrades 4
(Add in the missiles you use a lot and get those to xxx Specialization 4)
Navigation:
- Acceleration Control 4
- Afterburner 4
- Evasive Maneuvering 5 (needed for inties)
- Fuel Conservation 4
- High speed maneuvering 4
- Navigation 5
- Warp Drive Operation 5
Shields:
- Shield compensation 4
- Shield management 5 (more shields)
- Shield Operation 5
- Shield upgrades 5
- Tactical Shield Manipulation 4
Spaceships command (Requires Perc/Wilp remap):
- Assault frigates 4
- Caldari Battle Cruisers 4
- Caldari Cruiser 5
- Caldari Destroyer 4
- Caldari Frigate 5
- Interceptors 4
Targeting:
- Gravimetric Sensor compensation 4 (increases Ewar resistance)
- Long Range targeting 5 (increases target range)
- Signature Analysis 5 (faster lock)
- Target Management 5 (more locked targets at once)

That should keep you busy for a while. You can put it in EVEmon and make a nice plan. Have a look at my character (EVEboard). I'm doing pretty much Caldari only as well and although it's still work in progress, all the 'core' skills are trained at 4. I'm still in a Int/Mem remap as well until I'm done with the core and support skills, after that I'll go to Perc/Wilp and further work on my drone, missile, gunnery and spaceship command skills.

Bit of shameless advertising, if you want to get in to some easy going PvP, you can always look up RVB. We generally fly t1 frigates and cruisers, so it's accessible to new players. :)

Thanks for the list of skills and reply. I've never been in a real player run corp before so I just may look you up. Thanks again!
