Hello everyone!

CCP Sledgehammer here to update all you lovely capsuleers on the wonderful new sights coming to you in Rubicon 1.3, courtesy of the best graphics team around, Team TriLambda.

  • To kick things off, we have completed our V3 work on all asteroids! All asteroids (ice included) have been renovated for Shader Model 3 and are in client now, we'd love to hear your feedback on how they look at your end.

  • Territorial Claim Units have been V3'd! They correctly display alliance logos, have activation animations and rotate again.

  • Redesigned Tristan! Everyone's favourite Fat Man has a new sleeker look and has been increased in size to make it comparable to it's T2 variant, the Nemesis.

  • Linear Lighting! We have implemented our first pass of Linear Lighting on ships. This shows up detail better as well as an increased richness of colour. As it stands, certain users may perceive ships to be darker. We'd like to emphasize that this first implementation of linear lighting is the first step in overhauling our lighting system and this darkening is an issue that we are actively seeking to resolve with further improvements to the lighting system and thus should be treated as a temporary change. Despite this, we would really like to hear about any ships that you consider to be too dark so please post here or submit a bug report.

We have more features to disclose, coming up soon! Stay tuned to this thread for updates.

If you see any issues with these changes please report them in this thread and/or submit a bug report using our in-game bug reporter, accessible from the F12 menu.

Everything looks great! Even the chat is better (it doesn't work, I'm going to try to relog).
The crucifier doesn't appear to have any shine though. I'll log into again and report more if I find more. If there's more than the crucifier I might file a bug report.

EDIT:
Ships that look great:
Apocalypse
Navy Apocalypse
Abaddon
Armageddon
Navy Armageddon
Bhaalgorn (EPIC!)
Dominix
Navy Dominix
Machariel
Maelstrom
Megathron
Navy Megathron (I don't think it looks too dark, this isn't a cartoon)
Nestor looks fab, but I see no shine on it so it may not work on it. Though matte white is a good look it seems.
Nightmare looks epic.
Rattlesnake looks good, like military matte (with a little shine).
Raven
Navy Raven (!).
Scorpion
Navy Scorpion
Tempest !!!!
Fleet Tempest
Typhoon
Fleet Typhoon
Vindicator (I don't think it looks too dark, this isn't a cartoon).

Archon also looks good.
Purifier.
Corax.

It occurs to me that it would probably be easier to mention what don't look good, and that appears to be the crucifier. Though I haven't checked all ships yet.

hyperion looks sort of, square. many rounded edges on the front and back aren't round. May have been like that before since the round turret slots at both ends are very difficult to do with few polygons.

Also have problems 2-5 in post number 8 in this thread.

EDIT 2:
The Revenant looks like a polished turd.

EDIT 3:
But the small lights on the providence looks epic. Gives a real sense of scale.

EDIT 4:
Fenrir came out of it looking great!

EDIT 5:
*Gawks at Ark*

EDIT 6:
*Gawks at all the jump freighters*

EDIT 7:
*Gawks at Avatar* The other Titans were a bit meh (better than they were, but not fanbleedingtastic like the avatar and the jump freighters).

EDIT 8:
Heavy Assault Cruisers look great. As does the Heavy Interdictors.
Guardian looks good, but is the matte parts matte on purpose?
The rest of the logi cruisers look good.
Curse and Pilgrim look epic.
The rest of the recons look good.
Legion, Tengu and Loki looks good. Haven't tested all possible subsystems though, someone get on that.
But the proteus, it sort of looks EPIC right there in the middle bit, with the piping and whatnot, the rest looks better than it did, but not as great as some of the others, eerr, Amarr ships.

Augoror navy issue looks good, but I can't tell if the motors are supposed to be matte.
The rest of the navy faction cruisers are awesome.
Pirate cruisers look great (particularly the stratios, ashimmu and Phantasm).
About the Augoror, don't know if the motor is supposed to be that matte.
The rest of the standard amarr cruisers are epic (Kador and Tash-Murkon Omens!!!!!!!!!!!!).
The the rest of the standard cruisers are a tad better (though they almost look unchanged, in fact, they may be unchanged), but the special ones look epic.
Among the interdictors: Sabre and heretic looks great, the two others, better but not fantastic.
Standard destroyers look OK.
Assfrigs look OK.
Covops ships look OK (manticore looks epic).
Electronic attack frigs look OK (Sentinel is matte, is that on purpose?).
Interceptors look OK, Raptor, claw and Stilletto looks great.
Navy and Pirate frigs look great.
Standard frigs look OK, special editions look epic.

EDIT 9: I think My settings were changed, why else would everything look different, yet the same as my TQ client? *facepalm* In any case, this is a nice summary of what needs to be done next. Why isn't the normal versions as cool-looking as the special ones?

Errors found so far on first inspection

1. Creation, download and application of new build took 1hr on 40Mb fibre connection using 60Mb ethernet connection to hub - no download tab available on launcher to change # of threads used to download updates (extremely slow DL). Sad
2. F12 doesnt work ! Sad
3. Client has been reset to new account settings (inc tutorial run thru) although ships etc appear to be correct - cannot access assets icon to check other locations. Sad
4. Unable to edit any chat channel settings or load any MOTD. Sad
5. Neocom icons only partially functional - not all icons open. Sad
6. Relog doesn't solve items 2-5.
7. Total of unapplied Masstest SP is correct. Smile

EDIT : Report copied/moved to CCP Habakuk's general feedback thread

The Tristan looks awesome! I do have one critique though. Can you either add back in the other arm or remove the right one? It looks pretty sleek until expect for the right side.

you want to remove the bridge, how do you control the ship without a bridge?

Isn't that why we have Capsules? Especially on small ships like frigates where almost no additional regular crew is required.

In this dark void we are like brilliant stars, holding within us both the creative and destructive power to bring a new dawn upon worlds or plunge them into eternal darkness.

visible drone bay would be nice (also on the sentinel).

And could you give the sentinel a different color scheme than the crucifier? They are not distinguishable atm.

Will that linear lighting update fix issues that some users are having with ship running lights/blinking lights not showing up?

Enter grid and you're already dead, destined to be reborn and fight another day.
