Blasters and Sensor Damping

Just though of an interesting new mechanic to fix blasters, Gallente and other modules.

One of the main complaint of blaster ships is that other ships apply their DPS immediately while the Gallente has to get into range first. Gallente ships being slow, generally having to armor tank with plates reducing agility. One argument is that the person with the closest range guns should be fastest, although that is a Minmitar attribute.

So that got me thinking, if Ammar are tough and can amror tank well, and Minmitar are fast and can speed tank, Caldari is range and can shield tank well. Then Gallente should be control/stealth and should be able to target range tank.

Gallente currently have one of the least used ewar debuff. The remote sensor dampener. This module reduces the lock range of enemy ships, or the signature resolution making lock times longer. This is the stealth that the Gallente need but , you need too many modules to do anything effective with it on one target. If there are multiple enemies then its generally useless.

I think the we need a new module or change the existing one to work as a buff instead of debuff. Currently in order to lock a target we check targets Range vs you effective locking distance. This distance is bonused by sensor boosters and debuffed by the remote sensor dampeners.

Rance <> Target Lock range * Modifiers

The new module would effect your effect range for targeting. The module would make your ship appear farther away for target locks as a self buff. While guns, missile weapons links use true range; Target locks would use effective range. This form of ewar would allow ships to be able to target lock range tank.

Mechanically this would try to reduce the engagement distance to where blasters are more successful.

I think it'd be much simpler to just re-buff Damps, rather than trying to implement a new "object you're looking appears further away than it really is". Much easier from a coding standpoint and much less confusing

sensor damps are quite viable, even on unbonused hulls. 2 of them can effectively nix an opponent, just be strategic and choose the correct opponent to damp :P

I feel that part of the issue is that Gallente boats are more dedicated armour tankers meaning they have limited mid-slots which is mostly reserved for propulsion, web and point leaving little room for sensor damps.

unlike minmatar who sorta swing both ways between armour and shield.

now, proposing mass changes to slot layouts obviously won't happen.
that said, more even mid-low slot ratio could provide a balance between shield tanked speed (getting into range) vs. armour tank sluggishness but with adequate slots for dampeners to cover your approach
