My First Corp Experience

Well, I say my first, it was my second but the very first isn't so exciting to talk about. They were US based, I was EU, never online at the same time, I left.

Now comes my tale of a heart warming welcome into the brutal world that is EVE Online.

After leaving my very first Corp, I was on the hunt for another with players on the same time as myself and a much larger community so there was more chance I could team up and learn the ropes. I narrowed it down to (yes, I'm going to name and shame), Order of the Shadow, a Corp ran by a charming fellow named Jack Carrigan. You'll find out just how charming he is a little later.

Before joining I joined their chat channel and introduced myself to the guys and gals, with a warm response. Great! I thought. These seem like some great people I'd like to share my EVE experience with. We chatted away, and they asked to do an API check and I obliged and everything came up clear - I was in. Wonderful! They were based some 27 jumps from myself, and so I talked one of their members into hauling my ships and modules and life to the other side of the system and paid a small gratuitous fee. I was in high sec, 0.6, and surrounded my mostly low sec and null sec space, which for me was great as I'd wanted to get into PvP and see more of this side of EVE. I finally arrived along with my belongings and tucked myself into bed happy with my new Corp and friends, and got a good nights sleep.

Morning came and I logged on, updated my skills and spoke to a few members who were as kind as they'd been from the start, offering me tips and links to help get myself aqcuainted with EVE. I was AFK many times throughout the day as I was busy with work and other day-to-day things, so I was looking forward to the evening where I could perhaps join some friends on a mining or even a PvP trip. After dinner I eagerly headed downstairs and into the cave that is my bedroom and sat down. Met with a message sent a short whole ago from the Corp leader, "Hey Kasnakha" I felt happy. That was until I went to respond only to see I'd been kicked from the Corp. What! Why! This must be a mistake, we were perfect for each other!

I immediately started a conversation with him, and asked what had happened. He said it was all a mix up and that he'd meant to kick somebody else for being a spy but had kicked me instead. I thought this was a solid response and applied again immediately and was accepted once again. Home, sweet home.

I was asked if I'd like to join a mining expedition a few jumps away and headed for my Wreathe as I was asked to bring a hauler. I was happy, I was making friends and getting to know the game a little bit more. I took a bit longer than expected as I was actually at the wrong station, and my ships were some five jumps away. I set destination and, luckily for me, checked the map. EVE had decided to take me the long way round, some seventeen jumps, taking me the safe route. Shouting no at my frightened computer I immediately took over control of my ship and made the shortened route to my ships.

Grabbing my Wreathe I was met with messages of, "Hey Kas, you coming?" And, "Where are you Kasnakha? Barge is nearly full." I upped my efforts and made it there as fast as I could, eagerly wanting to give a good first impression and help my Corp members out. I was told I'd receive a share of the ore too, SUPER!

Upon arriving, I sat back and watched my brilliant leader clean up some rats in swift succession, and I was pleased to be under the leadership of a capable Capsuleer. I headed to the mining barge and watched my screen intently as my hauler made its way slowly towards the barge. That's when I had to make a double take of my computer screen. No? What! Oh, he's just messing around that silly, fearsome man! This is my induction, a little beating to show his strength and to make sure I don't get any ideas of taking over his pride - you know, like lions do! Yes, this was just a little humiliation.

I began to doubt this when my shield was taken out and when I realised that he had first cut off my warp drive. No, we're friends, I'm his friend! I'm a proud member of his Corp! He'll stop soon. Won't he?

The bombardment continued and I got increasingly worried, writing messages of, "Hey, err, you know you're shooting me, right? Hehe." Which turned into more desperate screams of, "????????" Then my ship blew up. Wow, well that as fun. So! Guess that's the end of their joke and now I can go home and laugh about it with all you new best friends!? Another explosion followed by a black screen, followed by a body.

I believe this is what the people of EVE call "being podded", and this was my first introduction to it. Now, I'm all up for some banter and fun and games, but when I awoke I was 27 jumps away, back in my starter station. I started a conversation with my new friend turned foe and was met with replies of, "You're a spy! I have reliable intel." Well, if I was him I would go and get that intel double checked and behead the sender of such intel, because I had no idea what he was talking about.

I started EVE a little over a week ago, a new account, one character, three
month sub. I even questioned myself, "Am I a spy?!" As if I'd somehow forgotten about my secret mission of some sort. I rested upon the decision that I was in fact not a spy, and I have no idea how this idea came to fruition, and was never given an answer.

And that my fellow Capsuleers, is my first introduction into life in EVE - that deadly *****.

Sadly that is the way eve is heading.. all scamming and tear extracting. But don't be disheartened, there are many good corps out there. Can't say how to find them as I have myself battled after the first corp I was in went up in smoke. Best is to move your own assets and for the first while don't join corp ops for a while in ships you not willing to loose. You should also check corp KM's, and at least google some of the members.
If I were you I would post their name all over crime and punishment, that way someone else looking my not end up in the same boat.
I have heard good things about brave newbies.. maybe try them.

Yes, luckily for me my Wreathe didn't have anything so expensive on it and was a gift after completing an NPC mission. I am certainly not disheartened but this kind of discredits my Corp history, especially as a noob. Trying to join other Corps' I'm being asked why I've been in so many other Corps' and what happened. "Well, they thought I was a spy!" Isn't the most confidence boosting answer a man can give.

I'll look up that Corp you mentioned, thank you and hopefully find myself a more welcome crowd!!

It was small. And the person in question had no idea about what had happened until he logged on this evening.

The sum wasn't large enough for it to warrant that. Plus it doesn't make sense.

Have you tried looking in the recruitment thread? Maybe put up your own post. Still could end up in the same place.. but its a start, eve uni could also be an option

hehe, gl, just google some of the members and check their kill mails. http://evewho.com/ will help you get the members, and question any HS kills that don't look war related and any corp on corp kills. But then I'm paranoid..
