Hi,

So I have been training up Spaceship Command and will be able to sit in my new Megathorn (or should I get a Hyperion or Dominix?) at some point tomorrow / the next day. I can't yet equip large railguns, but that is next on my list to train. My main question is, what should I train up next that will benefit me doing lvl4 missions in hi-sec? What will make them go faster for me?

At the moment, they are going helluva slow, due to the pitiful damage I do against the larger ships, but I have persevered and have done a couple of missions at lvl 4 so far. The higher amounts of ISK and LP you can earn are quite nice, but sometimes orbiting the last ship and slowly slowly grinding it down can get very tedious!

Here are the two ships & loadouts I am using, I hope you can ascertain my SP level and skills trained from this post?

Gnosis lvl4 mission fit:

Lows:

Internal Forcefield Array I
3x Beta Reactor Control: Capacitor Flux I
2x Magnetic Vortex Stabilizer I

Mids:

Experimental 10MN Afterburner I
Medium Shield Booster II
4x Limited (mission specific) Dissipation Field I

Highs:

5x 200mm Prototype Gauss Gun: Antimatter M

Rigs:

3x Med Cap Control Circuit I (jury rigging is at lvl 2)

Drones:

HH I x4 as I am still on Drones IV

I also use a Brutix with the same weapons but an armour tank that I will swap out as per mission damage types.

So, where should I go from here to help me do more damage and be able to tank more damage too?!

Cheers.

Stick to level 3s until your core skills are better. There's no reason to rush into level 4s when you could do 5 level 3s in the same amount of time.

With the increase in shiptoasting, the Report timer needs to be shortened.

These are my usual recommendations for L4 (they're not requirements, but they make the experience nicer and less likely to end in sadface):

Core Competency Standard certificate
Drones V + all supports to III
T2 (or better) tank modules (boosters, hardeners, etc.)
Weapon system support skills to III-IV

As Rengerel said, at low skills a BC in L3s can be more efficient than a BS in L4s. The battleships are less forgiving of low skills levels. (Edit: also, a BC in L4s will pretty much always be slow.)

Edit:
Once you get to that point, the next step in increasing mission speeds is letting go of the idea of cap stability. Once you're doing a good amount of damage and know how to run the missions (triggers, groupings, etc), you can fit for a burst tank that just runs long enough to last you until you're able to whittle down the incoming DPS. That'll free up slots for more modules and rigs that improve damage and damage application.

Look at the various certificates and try to get at least some of them up to improved before you start using battleships.

After 7.5 years in I still don't see the need to get myself into a battleship (besides running out of skills for anything smaller).

Thanks for the helpful replies guys, I was looking at the certificates in my profile and began working towards them, but I find how open ended and massive this game is a little overwhelming at times. I'll take another look at support skills. Could someone gimmie a starting point for support skills?

For general supports, the Core certificate series is a good starting point.

If you expand the view for say gunner control standard certificate it will tell you which skills and levels are needed.
