When you use a drop down menu, your mouse will pass over other menu items before landing on the one you want.

This arrangement leads misclicks, example:

1. The most deadly being jumping and opening a portal on a titan - one bridges your fleet over, and the other drops your lone titan into a hostile fleet.

2. A more common mistake would be selecting jump gate instead of orbiting or approach.

A radial menu solves this issue since your pointer would not pass over any other item. to reach the one you want.

A best designed radial menu would allow users to custom the first ring of each radial menu, i.e. first item would be "customize menu"

Sorry, but no. I had enough of that with SL, despite theirs being reasonable.

What would be better for Eve's right-click menu would be the possibility to 're-skin' certain ones through an optional config file. I'd be happy just to be able to define my top 1-3 items (to override the CCP format).

For example, right-click a skillbook I'd prefer 'Inject' as first option (currently its not - its someplace in the middle, wtf). For general items in hangar I'd personally want 'Repackage' and 'Sell' as my first options. In open space, have active mission submenus first (though I can see this being changed during a war). And so on.

This change would probably be somewhat simpler than a Radial menu, but allows the same flexibility as one (and, probably, easier to implement depending on what Carbon UI can do now).

Currently Retired / Semi-Casual (pending changes to RL concerns).

Yea, that would also work.

Can combine that with radial. I like radial menus for their tight arrangement.

UI definitely needs an overhaul, as stated elsewhere as well.

But I think using radial menus instead of the current ones just replaces one bad solution to a problem (how to make it clear to the game what the user currently intends to do) with another bad solution.

I'll support any UI improvement. Only Important part is that it really is an improvement over the current UI.

I have never been a fan of radial menus in UIs. As a UI designed myself, I just don't like them - there's probably no logical reason for my dislike of them other than I personally find them to be unintuitive.

That said, I do agree with the general consensus that Eve's UI needs some serious work. Not just the right click menu's but the entire UI design.

De'Veldrin's Corollary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null.

Hence the option part, you can toggle it off should you find spreadsheet-like menus more to your taste.

I'm all for options actually. Only one thing is certain, that the current UI could be drastically improved.

radial menus are a good thing, CCP even tried to implement them.
just click on the ship (can't remember the button) and something like a radial menu appears.

however ccp totally failed to get the main usability advantages implemented right

if you implement a radial menu you have the following goals:
- use it for common, very often used actions
- the buttons are big and you can use it with a SINGLE click (activate menu: mousedown, activate action: mouseup)
- user will learn quickly to use it WITOUT reading the text, (e.g: right ->cargo, down -> stop ship...)
- its 100% future proof. It works with mouse, gamepad, touchpad, joystick/coolie...

so.. we have them already. its just implemented the wrong way + not customisable...

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value
