Skill Points thought...

Hi,

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find anything about it.

I haven't been playing EVE for a while as I got sick of the SP grind and not being able to do anything useful, or fun for that matter, so I quit on and off for about 2 years at a time. My thought was that, since SP now trains offline, wouldn't it be fair for characters that were active, i.e. paying to play, in the past (when you had to be online to train SP) to have any SP that they would have accumulated while being offline added to their account?

Cheers.

Skill points have always accumulated while you're offline. They accumulate at a steady rate no matter whether you're logged in or not, as long as your account is active. If your account runs out, there's a grace period I believe, a short one, then your training pauses.

I thought they only used to train when you were logged into the game. I believed that offline SP training only began a few years ago?

I don't know about "fair", but it certainly wouldn't make sense for CCP from a business standpoint. The only reason some accounts are kept paid up is to keep the skill queue ticking.

If something like this was implemented, you'd see a one-time gigantic spike of accounts activated for one month and then dropped. Then, whenever someone wants to do something new, they'd dip into their bank of abandoned accounts and have a pre-generated stock of SP to work with. I think the meta-gaming would overshadow any "fairness".

Skill have always trained in real time, logged in or not. What wasn't always there was the skill queue, hence the stories of players from early days setting the alarm clock for 2:15 AM to wake up, log in and change skills.

I see, must have got the skill queue and the offline SP training mixed up, been a while!

Cheers.

We also used to have ghost training where a skill would continue to train until the next level even if the account subscription ended. Quite a few people trained capital ships 5 as well as titan 5 that way.

So Spunky here has no idea how SP works, but wants 2 years worth handed to him? Nice.

I don't think you grasped what I meant, Susan... You're not very bright are you? Nowhere did I say I wanted 2 years worth of SP handed to me, just the SP that would have accumulated when my account was active, i.e. paying subscription, as I thought offline skill training, while your account was active, was a new edition to EVE.

It's not. Sorry to disappoint.

If you were failing to train while offline before, that's not anyone's fault but your own.

True. However, I think that SP, while you're a subscriber, should accumulate regardless of whether you have a skill in training or not. I mean, you should get unallocated SP if nothing is in training so as you can use it when you come back online. Take this scenario for example, say you were out walking your dog and you had 4 hours left training your current skill and had nothing in the queue after this, and you were hit by a lorry and had all your bones broken, therefore ending up in hospital for 6-8 months. When you come out of hospital and come back to EvE, how pissed off would you be after paying the subscription fee for this long for nothing?

In that case, worry about getting your life in order. Even using extreme examples, you won't convince anyone to agree with you.

The main problem with that is that unallocated skillpoints are attribute-agnostic. In order to prevent it from being exploited, you'd have to accumulate SP at the lowest possible rate (taking lowest attributes into account), or lower. If that was the case, I guess this wouldn't be terribly imbalancing. *shrug*

(Also... why can't someone cancel your account for you while you're in the hospital? You've got medical bills, man!)

That sounds fair to me, makes sense that the SP would train at the lowest possible rate.

Because you're in a coma and, obviously, can't ask anyone to do this for you...

Considering I signed up 9 years ago got busy with RL stuff and only just came back to eve, I wonder what I could do with all of those unallocated SP, *sigh* shoulda just played skill training all this time.

That would be the refund of the learning skills, as everyone who had them trained got.
