How to take down a Tristan with tech 1 meta 1 gear

Our corp has an internal pvp competition in which we fight with tech 1 basic frigates and the last few weeks it has been won by one of us with a Tristan and using drones so I'm wondering how to kill him next time round. I've tried to get close to him to engage before but he uses an afterburner to keep out of my range.

My two main ideas is to use a long range Kestrel and missiles snip him while using a microwarp drive to get within range. My other plan is to use a Griffin with jammers to prevent him locking me down and then using missiles to take him out while keeping out of his drones auto attack range (20km).

is there any other ideas that people can think of?

Off of the top of my head a Rocket Kessy (Dual web/400 plate) or a Rail merlin (MSE/AB/Scram/Web) both have the range dictation and projection to be effective.

Edit; If you can use T2 equipment I would recommend a Tormentor Full tackle an AB 400 Plate and an AAR, DLPs with scorch should project plenty for your needs if he pulls range, and you can instant ammo switch.

scram isn't an issue as we do it arena style

I have thought of sticking some smart bombs on my frigate and using them to blow up his drones but he does have 150mm railguns as backup weapons so I need something that can take him out at range as well

Scram shuts off any MWD he may have but if its arena style and you know hes AB fit you could run double web.

how about a blaster merlin with mwd and ASB?

it becomes a matter of closing fast and outdps-ing

You can use the AAR.. Thats meta 1 ^^

Use any attack frigate to kite and kill his 8 drones off. Then orbit him at 15-20km while killing him.

Fine, rail merlin then..

Or a properly tanked rocket kestrel.. Both should kill a tristan i am sure..

Rocket kestrel will beat a brawling tristan fine... though a mwd tristan will eat you up as you have no javelin rockets. (though not sure how good t1 drones would be)


But seriously this is how the PVP tourney will go:

AB/Scram/Web Kiter > MWD Brawler > MWD Kiter > AB/Scram/Web Kiter

Not really, if its mwd tristan you can just kill the drones and then its a draw \o/

Missile Kestrel - Speed in rigs/lows, ASB, MWD, scram, web. Engage from 30-50km. If the enemy has cap boosters and an active tank, prepare for a long fight.
