Odyssey Radial Menu & Overuse of Symbology

While I applaud CCP's efforts to reduce the reliance on cascading pull down menus and text I believe CCP's graphic designers are now leaning too heavily on symbology. This negatively impacts gameplay by forcing players to remember cryptic symbols which perform sometimes critical functions.

Consider the new radial menu. While nice I believe it would be enhanced significantly by adding descriptive text next to the buttons thereby eliminating any confusion as to what a button will do when selected. See the link here for suggested improvement (Proposed Radial Menu Enhancement).

Not only does this proposed modification give immediate and clear indication of the function each button performs it also provides a visual indicator of which buttons have additional functionality through dragging away from the radial center.

The issue of cryptic symbology is illustrated at 1:43:27 in the Eve Online - Odyssey preview video here (Cryptic Symbology Problem Illustrated)as the CCP Dev appears to hesitate while describing the approach/align icon (which are extremely similar and show up in the same position on the radial menu depending on context / target range):

I would also like to see similar labels whenever the mouse pointer hovers over the Neocom (this would be great for new players as they could simply read the "Assets" label rather than looking for "the thing that kinda looks like a safe"). Naturally these labels should be options that could be disabled through the settings menu.

What do you all think?

I agree, additional text captions should improve usability.

The texts should be under the icons. I don't want to see a multidimensional christmas tree when I open a menu.

Interesting point. Any text labels would be an improvement.

Thanks for the reply.
