Has anyone else here tried using a google drive or something to save your eve cache/settings? Does this work? It just seems like it would be useful for keeping autopilot and other settings consistent across clients, especially for those of us who ninja eve at work.

Has anyone done this? Are there problems? Question

does this help? changing game files is prohibited by EULA but I don't know if this is the "OH YOU ARE SO BANNED" kind of thing or the "we'll just ignore this since you're not doing it to cheat" (like EVEMON) kind of thing so you should ask a GM

I don't see how it matters where you store your settings files... CCP?

There is no way I'm the first one to think of this. Google is giving me no love... anyone?

Just try it? My guess would be that you could make the settings folder be a symlink to something stored elsewhere, like dropbox/skydrive/whatever.

You can do it with junctions. The main problem you'll come across is probably a lack of granularity in what you can include and what you can keep separate. The EVE settings are fairly monolithic, and what you want for one account/client/computer might not be exactly what you want for another — graphics settings being probably the most obvious one.

i tried to understand the eve settings a while ago and after hours and hours i finally got to understand it... and 2 patches later they changed the configuration files. >.<

anyway, currently it seems they are separated in two files, one contains client settings, the other one Game settings.

Client settings, such as last logged accounts (useful) and audio/video settings are inside the file "Core_public__.yaml"

game settings, such as window position, overview settings, "don't show this message again" selection, theme and any other settings, like preset orbit ranges are inside the file "core_user_xxxxxxxx.dat". where "xxxxxxxxx" is a number that i guess is the account number identifier. not the character ID you can get from the API.

so, if you only run one client, you will see one "core_user__.yaml", and as many "core_user_xxxxxxxxx.dat as accounts you have.

there are two other sets of confs files, one is boot up information for the client, they are written by the launcher, and there's "core_char_xxxxxxxxxxxx" but those seem to contain the text used for the auto-complete feature some windows have. and which stuff should be marked as "viewed". that is, stuff that's strictly character to character based.

oh, and they are located inside Users\%user%\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\e_games_eve_tranquility\settings

if you could get the main pc to have google drive load that folder, while having the second pc use a junction software to make whatever folder google drive is using to take the place of that "\settings" folder maybe you could do it.

but it just seems way too complicated. Blink

The files consist of parameters that you change through the game client anyway. They're not really client files anyway, per se.

You don't want to go through the hassle of even a false positive for a perma-ban.

I've adopted a rule of not touching anything related to the client, even with CCP instructions or approval. No amount of convenience is worth risking my accounts.

That's one of my primary concerns, and I think you are spot on with the risk assessment.
