Is anyone else having this problem...

...or am I losing it?

Situation 1 - Yesterday I track a CovOps to a hole (Buzzard). He jumps through, I set up in an interceptor at 0 on the hole. My Malediction has a sensor booster and the character has Signature Analysis to Lvl V. My SEBO is running, weapons and point cooking. CovOps jumps through and I CNTL click as soon as he drops cloak. "Target is invulnerable" and he warps off.

Ok, I figure its a CovOps and hard to catch. The 'Ceptor (SEBO boosted) should have got him or at least there should have been a lock ATTEMPT but not in this case. Maybe it was a fluke...

Situation 2 - Today, tracking a cloaky Tengu. He jumps into a hole, I set up on the original side in a cloaky Loki with the cloak off, SEBO on, point and weapons cooking sitting at 0 on the hole. This character also has Signal Analysis to Lvl V. A corpie in a cloaky Legion with a SEBO on who also has Signature Analysis at Lvl V is sitting there with me. Hole activates, Tengu jumps in. He drops cloak, both of us CNTL click him same issue. "Target is invulnerable" and he warps off under cloak. Not even an attempt at locking him. We got the Invulnerable message as soon as he was visible.

Now I have been living in WHs for the last 3 years and I have NEVER had this problem in the past. Or I could be losing it to "Space Madness" just like Ren did.

Anyone else seeing this since the patch?

Is there a chance that as far as the server was concerned in both cases he was already cloaked before my client even saw the ship? Is that a bug? Is it a feature? Is my 28Mbps cable connection not fast enough for this game anymore? Help!

Are you sure they warped out? I have always had the "target invulnerable" message when they jump or are coming out of warp. If they cloak I get the "you fail to target nothing" message. Maybe it has changed.

As for actually catching cloakies, you need to have them either not do the move then cloak *perfectly* AND have sub second lock time (2100 scan res or better for covops), OR get the decloak, usually while they are in a bubble. Best way I know of to do that is be still, at zero, in a fast ship, then when you hear/see the hole flash turn mwd on, spam click the overview so when they show up you start moving towards them, spin the camera so you're looking at the back end of your ship, then double click on where you think they will be heading after you see them in space.

I guess my question is shouldn't I have seen the lock timer (the count down to lock) at least begin? The point of my post is that I never had the possibility of a lock in either case as I got the message from the 1st click through to the point that they cloaked. If the lock timer had started (even for a split second) then I wouldn't have posted this.

I am very likely not describing this as well as I should but in the past, when I have failed to catch a cloaker (which has unfortunately happened many, many times I might add) I saw the count down to lock begin and then the guy cloaked. Not lately though. In the examples I gave in the original post, from the 1st instant that the enemy ship is visible, it is invulnerable. And that makes me sad.

He cloaked deal with it, if you are in a ceptor just try to decloak him before he warps

Ross,

I'll put you down in the "Not having this problem" category. Thanks for your helpful input.

If the target is more than 2k from the hole and he clicks warp then cloak you will never lock him no matter how high your sig res. If the target is less than 2k from the hole or a ship, drone then you have a chance of locking him because he cannot cloak.

you can't catch a ship before it cloaks unless theyre totally moronic , have horrible lag or spawn within 2km of the wh.

^^ This has been the case aslong as I remember resulting in the "Target is invulnerable" message.

You do sometimes get the locking timer due to client side prediction type issues but its just a visual thing on the client end - it used to happen a bit more often IIRC but you weren't actually locking them and would still get the same message when the client/server resynced.

Got it. I really do appreciate all the reponses. At least I know I'm not crazy.

Jubal, I thought I was the only one with this problem. I get it everywhere now. While running incursions or missions with my corpies or in our wh. Ver y recently I've had to order my fleet to actually move in space so I can target them. The same thing happens though. 'Target invulrnible' or some such nonsense pops up for like 30seconds after my fleet mates start to move in space.... Like they are still under the session change timer from undock.

It is my belief that CCL wanted to keep the session change timer and hae brought it back in stealth mode so we don't know about it.

Could be some latency on your end. Reboot your modem/router.

I have found ^^^ THIS ^^^ to be pretty much true. On my side it looks like they are decloaked and lockable but on the server side they are long since cloaked. It is going to be difficult to point any cloaky ship if they spawn >2000 from the WH. Try dropping a can, putting out drones and bringing friends.

Unless a cloaky derps, lags or is within 2k of something to decloak him he will cloak no matter how many sebos you fit on an ship.

Your only real chance is to decloak and point them before they warp, its extremely difficuly especially on a cloaky-*** T3 with interdiction nulifiers.
