Losing drones to computer crashes

Hello all.

Basically i've been running into a problem lately. My internet and computer is somewhat unstable, and frequently crashes.

The problem is, if im in the middle of a mission ive basically lost all the drones I had in space. This is getting to be an expensive issue as a set of T2 Ogres comes to about 3.5million isk, and i cannot see why I have to lose them. The client is clever enough to know when ive been DC'd and warps my ship out, why cant something be done to protect my drones during that time as well? Currently when i return to the battlefield i even have to slowboat over and retrieve them. not fun in my Domi, especially when they're still being shot at.

Obviously on returning to the game everything should be put back more or less where it was when i got kicked off. i dont expect my drones to magically reappear in my done bay, if they were 45km away thats where i should find them when i return.

Maybe this has been brought up before, but i also do not understand why if drones arn't protected, why can i not reconnect with them when i return?

The problem i personally have is that i want to get more DPS from my drones, and that now means investing in faction drones. but the cost of 5 federation navy ogres is 20million isk roughly. I dont really want to risk that on something completely out of my control, especially as its possible it could happen 3/4 times a night.

Thanks

P.s> yes im aware i need a better computer, and my internet sucks, but thats what living in the countryside is like unfortunately! What?

This is an old issue, which drone users will need to follow closely.

It's not currently on the CSM radar, make sure you push this issue next time you have a chance to talk to anyone in the CSM.

Thank you,

I had assumed it probably was, but i tend to not get involved in these things. i'll make sure to keep an eye on it next time.

I have a solution/proposal for this maybe that will solve the issue and help ALL players in eve.

Make a new skill called "Drone Recall"... (or something like that).

When 'warp to' button is clicked - or a disconnect that initiates warp...

Depending on the drone level - that is the number of drones that head for the drone bay.
Level 1 = 1 drone
Level 2 = 2 drones
Level 3 = 3 drones...
Level 4 = 4 drones
Level 5 = 5 drones.

We have all 'left' our drones behind by warping to another spot in the solar system. With this skill - ANY player in even can at least have a chance of saving their drones.

Any player also getting disconnected has a chance of the drone making it back to the drone bay and getting their drones saved.

If you are too far away from your drones and you warp off - the drones at least tried to make it back.

It isnt a perfect solution to your disconnecting issue - but I like the idea only cause it keeps 'all' players at a level playing field. No freebies are given for a disconnect or log off.

Just a thought.

I simply propose that there be "Reconnect with lost drones" like there is for Scan Probes.

So if someone's getting their ass kicked for whatever reason they can DC themselves and get out without losing their drones as well?

Something about this screams "abusable"... that needs to be taken into consideration. How could someone exploit it to prevent losses they should be suffering?

I'm with him on this.

I'm also in favor of reconnecting to drones as well...funny enough I thought that was already added a couple patches ago.

If not...might be a good feature...but no further changes beyond that.

It was suggested a couple of patches ago, but never came to fruition.

I count 2 incidents in memory where I accidently "Disconnected" or warped off leaving drones behind but was able to reconnect suddenly...but then it never happened again.

Hence my previous statement.

Maybe they tested it? Who knows.

But I stand by my statement.

They DC and warp off, the drones are abandoned and can be scooped or destroyed. How exploitable do you think that would be?

I'm all for a "reconnect drones" button, or maybe add it as a feature to the Drone Link Augmentor that when you activate the module it reconnects to any drones that are within your drone control range.

About the same way that people abuse "logoffski" to prevent loss. Even better, if you're flying a turret or missile based ship, all your weapons stay attached to your hull and aren't left behind when you warp off!
