Hi there!

I've been playing EVE for some years and I have to say it has really impressive environments. However, these are years old, so I think it would be a good idea to update them, as a big part of EVE's charisma comes from its environments, in my opinion.

We've seen this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXFuMyuWFDU

It seems we're getting new majestic nebulae; they're a great artistic work. But does that mean all nebulae from all systems would be replaced by them? I don't think that could be a good idea, since universe means variety.

There's another fact: in their description, many unvisitable systems are said to contain very impressive nebulae or other kind of natural phenomena. I'll give you a few examples:
- Pool of Radiance: a beautiful crystal nebula that would have more visitors if it wasn't inside Sansha's Nation space.
- Traced Cosmos: an unpassable region that contained two black holes that collided; the remains of this collision makes jumping impossible.
- Black Rise: an empty area of space that seems to swallow ships that go through it forever.
- Ginnungagap: a huge black hole that can be seen from the nearby Konora (0.4 sec).

All these places are unvisitable because stargates wouldn't survive within them or space-time is too deformed in them, and must be impressive to look at from nearby systems, as they're said to be. So here's my idea: make specific backgrounds for the nearby visitable systems, that woukd ressemble these phenomena in an artistic view (the same background for all these systems). All of them would look different, since these phenomena are different. Here you are some pictures from Hubble, for inspiration:

Another subject: Hubble's pictures from our galaxy show it full of stars. EVE's actual backgrounds show this greatly, they even show the galaxy's ring, but there's no variation in the density of stars visible. If we look at the Milky Way's ring we see there are much more stars within it than "above" and "below" it. For making these galaxy rings we can see from systems more realistic, this could be updated. Here's a Hubble picture of our galaxy, so you can see what I'm talking about:
The Milky Way from Earth

One last thing: wormhole systems contain exotic stellar objects such as red giants, protostars, black holes... These objects surely determine how the system looks like: black holes and protostars would show system-wide gas and dust rings that orbit them, while red giants would have their outer layers expanded through the system; these phenomena would make stargates unviable. However, in-game, these systems look little different than known-space ones. So my idea would be: adding system-wide rings or clouds that would be warpable-through, and would look different depending on the object that created it. They would be made in the same way as harvestable clouds (as physical objects). Here you are some inspiring examples:

A plasma nebula in the film Titan AE

I know this isn't the most urgent issue to fix in EVE, but I think it would be very interesting and would make gameplay more enjoyable: a true trip into space :)
If this was too much work for the design team, why not to make a "Create a Nebula Contest" in DeviantArt, as there was a "Create a Starship Contest"? ;)

Please post your opinions!

i personally would like to see some systems INSIDE an active nebulae, since that is where stars and systems form, would be fun to see minmatar ships flying through space-fog like ghost ships, maybe make them wormhole systems with a bonus effect of liek no overview farther out then 20km or something... just a thought.

but really, the new nebulaes are good and show enough variety, remember, nebulaes are generally FREAKIN HUGE since thousands of stars, sometimes millions, are being formed inside, so it would make sense that in space, there would only eb a couple that are bright and latrge enough to dominate several region's skies, being too bright for other smaller nebulaes to show up.

CCP likes to put eyecandy and environmental effects inside whs and other places where 98% of the player base won't see.Cool

good ideas. honestly there isnt much that can spice up npcing since for the most part you are just shooting at red crosses. the backgrounds and enviroments are what could change.
