Yes,

It's fully understandable that a game like this has it everyday, now im gonna explain this with some math.

31x ( the average month has 31 days , 365/12 )
.5 hours

15 hours of time ATLEAST that is payed for and that every player can't play.

It would be much more fair if those downtime hours were not reducted, infact. I am paying to play, so when i have payed i like to play. And i'm glad for the downtime and the active updating, but for that, we already pay.

now i agree that 15 hours a month is not much, and i am a casual player so its not like i am writing this to be a pain in one's ass. but if one would calculate this for the entire eve player database.

wich would be like 50,000x that 15 hours, CCP is getting rich!!

how do yall think 'bout this?
It's common for games not to care for those kinds of things, but when for example my IE provider simply cannot maintain to provide me with my internet, that i pay for, then i simply switch, it's their loose. So what does that provider do? Reimburse you with either a offer or anything. They try to let you feel they actually want you as a costumer.

I think im not the only one saying CCP doesn't give that feeling at all.

I honestly have no idea what the above drivel means.

Less alcohol/drugs might help you sound less like a dribbling idiot.

Alternatively more alcohol/drugs (for me) might help me understand the drivel.

It might seem that way from the outside but downtime allows CCP to ensure some very important things happen in terms of upkeep and maintenance to the Database.

I think the average 30 minutes a day is a good compromise rather then taking a day offline to rebuild the database and rollback Shocked

It's CCPs way of throwing a bone to its players with social anxiety, allowing them to shave, **** and shower without the pressure of feeling like they are missing out on EVE time.

There maybe other ways to prevent any down time but the only one I am aware of is a system used in the military and some stock exchanges where you have 3 identical systems with a main sever, a beta and a back up, the main copies all data two the other two continuously unless one is down for maintenance. Then any maintenance required on alpha (the main server) is done while beta is online.

This gives a seamless swap over between the servers with no delays. It also costs an absolute fortune and is not suitable for an MMORPG.

We get down time but we don't really pay that much for so much server time. CCP is not getting rich from this down time and all MMORPG's have down time of one kind or another.

Any spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors are because frankly, I don't care!!

lol, for those players its a good thing ofcourse.
although i dont get it why people seem to find my statement unlogical in any way.

what i was pointing at is if i purchase my month, i get 30 days, ( wich isnt even the average based on a year )
then comes DT everyday, get it?

it really should be 31 days atleast...

and if anyone disagrees then come with a better argument instead of bullshit.

so @Frying Doom,

I am aware of a system like that, and i agree it's really the only way possible. And also right away impossible for eve.

but as i said before all i wanted were other people's opinion, otherwhise i would have petitioned it right away instead of dropping it into the eve community

and a tiny omg for the girl who felt i ment her when saying people arent taking this seriously - _ -

Well easily put you pay for 30 days of 23.5 hours a day, easy fixed.

I think that you pay for the ability to use a slot while the servers are online. Nothing more.

who says CCP actually calculated it like that?

for the same good matter we are paying for 30 days 24 hours a day and we're just not getting it?

oh and to stripe down any unnecesarry things:

you pay for:

-costumer support
-game time
-updates
-Server MB's

also to make one thing clear:

it is not my intention to get anything done in any way via this topic, as if that was going to happen :)

I think the player base would be more annoyed if there was no downtime, no fixes, no updates, no improvements.

Downtime is in all online games, also, CCP would by your point of view it seems make money out of me during downtime, when I am sleeping, at work and all the other non related eve things that I do.

Finally the expansions do not cost us extra like some other online games do, so therefore I for one am not unhappy about it at all tbh.

Just my 2 cents as they say.

thats actually a good view of it from the other side.
especially about the expansion stuff.

but im getting the idea that people now think that i want down times gone?
thats not, all im trying to say is that downtime should not be reducted from your game time.

so when the clock is counting down towards your account expirement it should stop counting down when downtime is there.

CCP stated they're working towards eliminating downtime entirely.

In the mean time, consider the day-long downtimes other MMO's have. They might not go down every day, but when they do go offline for 'maitainence', they're offline for a loooong time.

EVE only goes offline for 5-15 minutes.

You're also aware of the downtime after playing the free trial, so if it bugs you, you can quit. You also get compensated with tons of free expansions and new things.

"War declarations are never officially considered griefing and are not a bannable offense, and it has been repeatedly stated by the developers that the possibility for non-consensual PvP is an intended feature." - CCP

Technically speaking you are paying for whatever amount of up-time we can provide, for access to the servers while they are up basically. Nowhere does it say that you are paying for 24 hour access per day. That being said, downtime has steadily decreased through the years, both in terms of unexpected downtimes and crashes, and the minutes it takes to perform the daily maintenance tasks.

The daily downtime is often less than 10 minutes although we typically reserve a half hour to be on the safe side.

Sorry about the extra downtime today everyone, hopefully the rest of your afternoon/evening/night/morning in EVE will be a good one ;)
