For the past few months I've only ever used the orbit option.

I've decided to try up it a little and get into manual flying.. What do I do?

First, try to double click in space.

Second, you just learned to manual flight.

Now find out the balance between your "orbit", transversal speed etc. and perfect it.

Orbit a stationary target, preferably one you can shoot and scram, to get a feel for keeping a range you want and don't fully abandon the orbit command. If you fly very fast ships manually, it's very very easy to **** it up and move too close or out of range in the heat of a fight. Sometimes it's simply more convenient to at least temporarily rely on orbit while you focus your attention to other tasks, that demand more attention than manual flying in a tight orbit allows.
