EVE mobile apps (iPad and otherwise)

Hello everyone,

One of the areas I wish EVE had more official support for was in mobile. I have been extremely impressed by the NEOCOM app (formerly EVE Universe), which is as close to an all-in-one package as a traveler like me could hope for (I am on the road a lot for work). It is a shame that it does not support market trading, skill updating, or non-local chat rooms, but I doubt that is because of limitations in the programmer's effort.

I have a few questions for those in the know, specifically pertaining to iPad-related apps and development:

1. Are there parallel/similar apps for mobile functions (comparable to NEOCOM)? Do they allow for market and skill manipulation?

2. Does CCP have any intention of developing official mobile support for EVE? It would be a dream to work things like PI (which could be rendered in 2D) on a mobile app, or access the 3D starmap with info, or non-local chat.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

1. Not that I've seen. Being able to manage market orders or update skills out-of-game is something that just isn't supported at all because the EVE API does not facilitate this.

2. I haven't seen anything from CCP that would suggest they are interested in developing a mobile application for EVE, but if I remember correctly they have mentioned before (somewhere on the forums, maybe a dev blog? Not sure where...) that they are considering the possibility of being able to do more with the API, such as updating skill queue.

CCP is working on implementing a REST-like API that will allow developers to change skills remotely, write mails and the like. The API isn't ready yet as far as I know.

As for CCP developing apps, I believe they just won't do anything on this side but provide APIs for third-parties developers to build on. It is probably better this way as CCP can focus on Eve and not have to maintain a flurry of applications, which is not so cost-effective in the long run.
